The Future of IDW’s “Transformers”

New IDW editor John Barber, Hasbro’s Senior Global Publishing Manager Michael Kelly and IDW’s Director of Marketing and Public Relations AnnaMaria White recently held a press conference to discuss upcoming plans for IDW’s Transformers series. Spoilers abound in the article, so if you don’t want to know what’s coming, avoid reading any further.

IDW Publishing and Hasbro held a press conference call Wednesday to present the future of “Transformers” comics — a future that, it would appear, does not include the famed leader of the Autobots. Following the two-stream “Chaos” arc now running biweekly in the “Transformers” ongoing series, December will see a one-shot titled “The Death of Optimus Prime,” after which the series will relaunch as two separate, ongoing series, “Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye” and “Transformers: Robots in Disguise.” New IDW editor John Barber led the discussion, with Hasbro’s Senior Global Publishing Manager Michael Kelly and IDW’s Director of Marketing and Public Relations AnnaMaria White also on the call.

TFCC Sideburn figures finally on the way

I got an e-mail from Brian at the Transformers Collector’s Club regarding the free membership figure for this year, the repaint of Classics Rodimus into RID Side Burn:

This is going out to all members.

Provided that your membership was in good standing on March 16th (which makes you eligible to receive this year’s free figure) the domestic figures are now in the mail.  If you joined after that date, you will receive next year’s figure.

Your Sideburn will arrive via standard rate mail so this can take as much as 3-4 weeks.  If you do not receive your figure by Sept 1, please let us know.  Please do not contact us before that date.

For those not in the US:

The foreign mail pieces will depart by next Tuesday.  They go via DHL Worldmail.  DHL forwards them to your county’s mail system and then your postal carrier will deliver your piece.  These should be in your country’s mail system by the end of next week.

Thanks for your patience with the delivery on these figures!

James Roberts to script TF Ongoing 22 and 23

Directly from IDW editor Andy Schmidt, courtesy of the IDW message boards:

The series does lead into CHAOS, and so do James Robert’s two issues of the ongoing series coming up (did I just say that? WHAT?).

James IS writing TRANSFORMERS #s 22 and 23.

For those who don’t know, James Roberts is half of the writing team (with Nick Roche) of the popular “Last Stand of the Wreckers” mini-series.

The new trailer for Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon can be seen here.

And from the accompanying Yahoo article:

Before this spot aired, director Michael Bay had only released a short and mysterious teaser trailer from his third and reportedly final film in the “Transformers” franchise. The Super Bowl ad, however, dispensed with the subtlety and showed some real action. It shows Continue reading Transformers 3 Superbowl trailer at Yahoo

Michael Bay: ‘Transformers 2′: ‘…kind of a mess’

The L.A. Times has an interview with Transformers 3 director Micheal Bay, in which he discusses the upcoming Transformers film, as well as his thoughts on Revenge of the Fallen.

“It was kind of a mess, wasn’t it?” an unsmiling Bay said of the 2009 film, which was far from a flop — it grossed a potent $836 million worldwide, finishing third for the year behind only “Avatar” and the sixth “Harry Potter” movie. But the director still talks about the blockbuster in tones of regret. “Look, the movie had some good things in it and it was entertaining and it did very well, but it also failed in some key ways. I learned from it. And now with this third movie we’re going back to basics and I absolutely believe this is going to be a much better film than the second one.”
