Transformers One Prime Changers Alpha Trion, wise and old, yet battle-ready, is a really fun deluxe-sized figure, but why? Read on to find out.
Packaging:

One thing to note: his little horn-dagger is super easy to miss sock-tied down there at the bottom of the tray, it’s small and blends in way too well.

Robot mode pluses:
- well articulated to modern Siege/Legacy-levels with great range on all, plus forearm rotation and cape jointing
- nice deco, lots of metallic purple paint and plastic
- accessory storage inside the cape works, and is shown in the instructions
- chunky sculpt has great personality
- size is decent for a modern deluxe
- accessories are fun, unique, and easy to work with
- flight stand on the back of the waist
Robot mode minuses:
- his detailing is low and not especially sharp
- heel spurs work fine in most poses but hinge back for transformation with no friction stops, so the occasional pose might require correcting them
- a bunch of design holes on this guy, shoulders, hips, and chest, none of which are 5mm ports but so easily could have been
- missing paint on the chest from the character design

Beast mode pluses:
- great expressive robo-lion head
- electro-horn can be angled forward or straight up
- quite stable considering the design, beast tail locks the waist articulation down to avoid getting sloppy
- deco moves elements around to use the gray more as the mane
- personality and charm in this design, there’s a style to it
Beast mode minuses:
- beast mode anatomy is limited by design decisions, and it has a baked-in stalking pose, that adds up to something more reminiscent of a bull or a hyena than a lion
- rear half is dominated by robot legs becoming beast legs in a manner not evocative of a lion
- head is not movable at all, you can break it out of the transformation to raise it up but it’s not intended
- posing feels limited
- electro-tail and horn are the wrong color, blue instead of purple
- transformation has tabs to lock in the shoulders but they aren’t all that useful
Overall: B+
Prime Changers Alpha Trion is a really neat, fun figure, the robot mode is fantastic with tons of articulation, a workable cape that also stores the accessories, and a lot of personality; but his detail is low. Transformation is simple but fun and the front half is clever, it takes a simple “stand up, you’re a robot” and makes it charming. The beast mode has a nice look, but it’s kind of awkward to find alternate poses from the intended one, and the rear is doing its best with heavy limitations.
