MP Soundwave and Acid Storm up, but no order til 7-18
MP Soundwave for $120:
http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.js ... d=19038126
MP Acid Storm for $75, or as my phone typed earlier "Avoid Storm":
http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.js ... d=19038406
Both are NOT available for preorder right now, cannot be ordered until July 18th. What's July 18th, you ask? A random date, nothing special... just the FIRST DAY OF COMIC-CON!
So why does Comic-Con matter? Because TRU in the past has teamed up with Entertainment Earth to sell Masterpiece figures to Comic-Con goers early. EE has a decent presence at the convention and TRU doesn't have a presence of their own. So it could be that this year, TRU is going to offer via the EE booth at comic-con both Masterpieces and offer them online at the same time.

See, that one's a camcorder, that one's a camera, that one's a phone, and they're doing "Speak no evil, See no evil, Hear no evil", get it?

Ergh, tough choices to make. I'd really like to order the TF/GI Joe exclusive set when it goes up on HTS right after SDCC, but I'd also really like to get Soundwave, and ordering him in this fashion would be the best way to go about it, since I don't really expect to see it at a brick-and-mortar store ever. And I seriously could not afford to get both. I'll probably just go with Soundwave, the Joe set looks neat, but it's a novelty for me, I don't like GI Joe *that* much, even if the lil' Bludgeon and Ravage would be cool.
I'd like to get Acid Storm too, but I imagine he'll be...a bit easier to find.
Also planning on ordering GSC's WonFes-exclusive Mika Jougasaki figma when it goes up for order at the end of the month, but she's significantly cheaper than these, and I don't think I have to pay for her until she ships towards the end of the year, so. Still, stupid exclusive-toy season...

I passed on the first Joe/TF set, bought and then sold the second set at cost to a friend, and now I am pretty sure I'm passing on the 3rd set because at $100 it's not outrageous but I simply cannot find that kind of "extra money" to justify it even though this is the only opportunity I'll have. And I know as an investment to ebay it'd be a steal, but I'm not that guy, I'm not going to buy it and part out the stuff I don't want to keep at a profit.BWprowl wrote:Ergh, tough choices to make. Soundwave is clearly going to be the hard one to get, judging by how clumsily TRU handled MP-10 last year with price increases, delays, false cancellation emails, and the item appearing virtually nowhere brick n mortar.
I was thinking the same, but honestly, if TRU learned anything from Thundercracker last year it's that just because first wave test sales were brisk doesn't mean you shouldn't be careful, TC still haunts stores and really shouldn't. So I think they'll order much lower on AS.I'd like to get Acid Storm too, but I imagine he'll be...a bit easier to find.

I'm going to try to get a MP Soundwave from TRU.com on july 18.JediTricks wrote:I passed on the first Joe/TF set, bought and then sold the second set at cost to a friend, and now I am pretty sure I'm passing on the 3rd set because at $100 it's not outrageous but I simply cannot find that kind of "extra money" to justify it even though this is the only opportunity I'll have. I think the MP Acid storm is a bad idea & is a guaranteed shelf warmer.
I don't like the idea of TRU selling the MP Soundwave & MP Acid storm at the SDCC 2013 Convention,Because this will make it harder to people to find the two exclusives at the USA TRU stores & USA TRU Site. due to the volume units now being less. I remember it was super hard to find MP Rodimus & MP Grimlock due to TRU selling both of these at the SDCC Conventions. To make matters even worse TRU-Canada was in a rush to sell MP Grimlock & MP Rodimus-----> So TRU-USA gave them a huge chunck of the volume untits from MP Grimlock & MP Rodimus.

I recall reading something, I believe it may have been a QandA with Hasbro, about so many units being made available just for SDCC so that the volume made available for retail would not be affected. Those figures were hard to find regardless of being sold at SDCC.Tigermegatron wrote:I don't like the idea of TRU selling the MP Soundwave & MP Acid storm at the SDCC 2013 Convention,Because this will make it harder to people to find the two exclusives at the USA TRU stores & USA TRU Site. due to the volume units now being less. SDCC 2013 confirmed, here's the whole listing: http://www.toysrus.com/shop/index.jsp?c ... d=11433485
This is going to be the most expensive con ever.

But that same volume of buyers is also taken out of the market, so it's evened out.I don't like the idea of TRU selling the MP Soundwave & MP Acid storm at the SDCC 2013 Convention,Because this will make it harder to people to find the two exclusives at the USA TRU stores & USA TRU Site. due to the volume units now being less. But,The problem is,their will be a huge sawrm of scalpers going to SDCC 2013,For the sole purpose of buying up all the exclusives in large supplies,Then re-selling them all on ebay for a profit.JediTricks wrote:But that same volume of buyers is also taken out of the market, so it's evened out.

That volume wouldn't change though, scalpers or collectors, it's the same volume of consumers.Tigermegatron wrote:But,The problem is,their will be a huge sawrm of scalpers going to SDCC 2013,For the sole purpose of buying up all the exclusives in large supplies,Then re-selling them all on ebay for a profit.JediTricks wrote:But that same volume of buyers is also taken out of the market, so it's evened out.

UPDATE: GONE BABY GONE.....
MP Soundwave went up on the TRU.com site today at around 7:30 am EST,I tried to order one. I had it in my cart & when I clicked the submit order button,it already sold out. the item sold out in under one minute.
Oddly enough the MP Acid Storm sold out too. I wasn't expecting this to sell out in under one minute today.
Did these items really sell out in under one minute? Is it possible the site has a data glitch? I wonder how many of each were in stock on the site. Wonder if these will be coming back in stock every few hours/day

To my understanding, it was available for more than a minute from what I've seen of discussions about it, but it did sell out quickly. I've seen a comment this was an early small batch made available to coincide with SDCC and that more will be available in August.
