The modern comics universe has had such a different take on G1, one that's significantly represented by the Generations toys, so they share a forum. A modern take on a Real Cybertronian Hero. Currently starring Generations toys, IDW "The Transformers" comics, MTMTE, TF vs GI Joe, and Windblade. Oh wait, and now Skybound, wheee!
Comixology is having a sale until Monday on Transformers Ongoing from the 2009 series, all of them are half off, 99 cents per issue or half price on volumes 1-7 (which works out to, you guessed it, 99 cents an issue).
Should I bother with this whole series, or should I get any specific runs like Chaos or Chaos Theory? (If I do that, "The Death of Optimus Prime" is not on sale, 2 whole dollars! )
Quick advice would be much appreciated.
See, that one's a camcorder, that one's a camera, that one's a phone, and they're doing "Speak no evil, See no evil, Hear no evil", get it?
I'd recommend it, I thought the Ongoing was really good, with the exception of Chaos and Chaos Theory. "Death of Optimus Prime" was good, not what I expected but definitely a different direction for the character.
I dropped the ongoing after the first issue and Don Fig's terrible art. From our discussions and the summaries I've read, it's got its fair share of problems.

People spend so much time worrying about whether a figure is "mint" or not that they never stop to consider other flavours.

Damn, those 2 are the ones that seemed the most likely to get bought simply because they tie into MTMTE and RID lately.

Thanks for the feedback.

Shockwave, I'm sorry, but you're wrong. JT, Chaos Theory is amazing. It's two issues of Roberts writing the best G1 Optimus Prime and Megatron ever, with some fantastic prewar Cybertron bits. It was my favorite comic arc of the year.
'Chaos' itself is kind of dumb and blah and event-comics stupid, but has art that I think is pretty, at least.

Costa's ongoing is definitely not for everyone. I liked it because of how 'grounded' it felt, and there's some really great concepts in there like Transformers allying with the militaries of different countries, and how humans see their place with them. Some people really really hated it for all those human elements that were included in it though.

Can I get into "Chaos Theory" without reading what's come before, and can I get from "Chaos Theory" to RID/MTMTE without "Chaos"?

Pretty much, yeah, 'Chaos Theory' has little enough to do with the Ongoing, you just need to know 'The Autobots captured Megatron and have him on their spaceship back to Cybertron now and Optimus wants to talk to him'. If you wanna go from there to RID/MTMTE, I suggest you at least read 'Death of Optimus Prime', it gives a decent recap of what the status quo is up til that point, and is a decent read on its own.
I think what I'm going to do is get Chaos Theory 1 and 2 by themselves for a buck each, and issues 30 and 31at a buck each since those events tie into things later, even though Chaos itself looks pretty out there from the wiki listing, and Death of Optimus Prime which is not on sale so $2. That's $6 for 5 comics, and since there's no tax, that's less than $1.20 per comic.
Dom feels I shouldn't bother with digital comics at all, but this is the medium I can get them easily and cheaply. He also suggested Chaos: Police Action, but having read RID with Prowl's aftermath, I just don't think that story will carry over without its setup, and I can't say I'm as compelled by "Spike did what he had to do" and all of that Earth stuff without the background that I don't really want to get into. I appreciate the recommendation though.

"Police Action" is not "Spike did what he had to do". It is more "Spike did something very bad and Prowl has to sort it out".

I would rather get better copies, even if they cost more. (Fewer, but better instead of more but lesser quality.)
Prowl (the member) is pretty much on target about Costa's run. Costa pitched a little too high for some of the fandom. But, that is less an issue with him than it is with the fandom.
