Re: June Hauls
I got some comics that are awesome.
Lockjaw and the Pet Avengers #2: Now, you guys know me somewhat, so you can probably figure that I love some Silver-Age super-animal teams. This is the best super-animal team ever. Admittedly, I can only think of the Legion of Super-Pets and Captain Carrot's Zoo Crew right now, and since one of those is almost entirely Superman-powered animals, and the other is more "funny animal" than proper-looking animal, that's not saying so much. But these guys are great, and the fact that each member has their own history in the Marvel Universe makes it even better. This issue: Ka-Zar's Sabretoothed tiger Zabu joins The Falcon's bird Redwing, the Frog of Thunder, Lockheed the Dragon, Lockjaw, Speedball's cat "Hairball" (codename!), and Aunt May's dog Ms. Lion on the quest for the infinity gems. They also fight Devil Dinosaur.
Yes. Ms. Lion takes on Devil Dinosaur. I love comics so very much.
Essential Fantastic Four vol. 4: I keep finding these cheap, else I'd just save for the Omnibus that I'm sure is out there. Anyway, if you ever want to know what the best superhero comics ever made were, they're in here. Every issue's a masterpiece of inventive craziness. Stan Lee and Jack Kirby made not just one of the best comics ever, but one of the best things ever.
So yeah, I'm happy right now. Tomorrow, I'ma find more Animated toys, 'cause I'm bored with the movie toys for now.

I'd say I lost respect for you, but I bought the Batman R.I.P. trade a while back, so instead I'll just say that this makes us even.Dominic wrote:-Final Crisis compilation

Is there going to be a trade with Last Will and Testament in it? I'll probably buy that.
I got Detroit Metal City vol. 1. This series sounds awesome.

It has become clear over the years that Dom is simply a masochist. Oh, sure, he *says* he doesn't like reading bad comics, but he clearly keeps buying and reading them, so it's the only explanation that makes sense.BWprowl wrote:I'd say I lost respect for you, but I bought the Batman R.I.P. trade a while back, so instead I'll just say that this makes us even.
We watched a few episodes of the anime with my club last year, and then we watched the live-action adaptation. It's painfully predictable and formulaic, but the hilariously offensive lyrics and ridiculous antics manage to make up for it. Nathan Explosion ain't got shit on Krauser.I got Detroit Metal City vol. 1. This series sounds awesome.

B-but..."Final Crisis" and "Batman: RIP" are both pretty good comics...
At least what I've read of RIP was good. Final Crisis has some slow points, but dang...

Re: June Hauls
Batman R.I.P. would honestly have been okay as Just Another Batman Story. The idea of Batman being mentally destroyed, only to have a contingiency plan go into effect, is a decent one. And the Batman of Zurr-En-Arr is one of the most hilariously awesome takes on a character I've seen in a long time.
But overall, the way it was handled, as a Big Event Book that led directly into another Big Event Book, and with all the resulting attempts at drawing from too many previous sources, rounded out with some really aggrivating support characters (Dr. Hurt irritates me more than any Batman character in recent memory, and the pathetic attempts at bait-and-switch they made with him didn't help things) resulted in a near-disaster. Then there's the ending, which aside from being a cop-out, also serves to remind me that Final Crisis exists, which is a huge black mark against it.
Final Crisis is a disaster. I dare you to explain to me what the hell was going on in the final issue. You can't, because as soon as you get to "Superman froze all the people of the world in ice cube trays then trapped Darkseid in a wishing machine and sang the universe into alignment" your brain shuts down and you can't read anything for a week.
It's funny, because Final Crisis and the recent Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader are both based around very similar themes and ideas, but Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader brings them to light so much more effectively.
Thought-Robot? Seriously?!

Yep. Close enough, anyhow. Where's the problem?
Also, yeah, Thought-robot. Why not?
Honestly, the last issue (and Superman Beyond) had just the kind of things I was hoping for when I went into the book. And I never get the big summer event crossover things. Never. So for Final Crisis, I was like "Okay, I'm in, but this better be Morrisony." So y'know, I got my money's worth.

Re: June Hauls
The point is that these Big Event Books shouldn't happen, ever, and that's part of why Atomic Robo is awesome. And part of why All Hail Megatron works--nearly everything you'd ever need to know is inside that book, and the largest hanging thread (Kup) is mostly handled in the Drift spotlight.
Re: June Hauls
customizing yielded: ......I should let one of the Onslaughts tell you. Pics up soon.
Now, for comics....
Morrison is a genius. "Final Crisis" is intentionally bad. The same goes for its tie-ins and lead-ins. (Think how intrusive the crossover is for the Bat-books, even months later.) It is performance art about bad comics. Morrison set out to create trash, and....mission accomplished. Morrison manages to be everything wrong with what I like in my comics. He executes terrible and destructive ideas with skill that could produce truly great comics.
Every so often, Morrison will deliver an "All Star Superman", though I often question his motives with that book. #s one of the guys at Howling Curmudgeon put it, Morrison always puts one god moment in everything he writes. (Even "Earth 2" has one.) FC is largely set-piece moments.

Re: June Hauls
Well, see, I love "Earth-2" as well, but the idea of an anti-matter universe where evil always wins is just smashing. Of course, that's assuming that "Good" and "Evil" can be considered almost physical forces in the DC Universe. This also means that "Good" has to win in the regular DCU. It's like a physical law.
I figure in this thread, I've managed to make both Prowl and Dom lose all respect for me.

Re: June Hauls
Grabbed Leader Prime at Dillon's for $33 and The Fallen there for $18. I also got Sideswipe at Toys R Us on sale for $8. That sale is over now, I think, but this week they have deluxes and FABs buy one, get one half off. That's almost as good...
I disappear.
