I can definitely get behind this. If nothing else, compilations tend to get better distribution than single issues.

With Marvel signing with another distributor, we may see the fall of Diamond. But that's for another thread.

Transformers Nefarious #3:
Furman essentially ignores the idea of movie Bumblebee being a near mute. He follows the letter, but not the spirit of the rule. Normally, this sort of thing would annoy me, but movie context is so empty in the first place I cannot really be bothered by deviations from it. Besides the main fight scene, (showcasing some really badly designed Decepticons), there are a few "the plot thickens" moments this issue and some likely to be ignored developments with a minor character from the movie.

Doesn't Sam accuse Bumblebee of playing up his 'muteness' for dramatic effect? Which is of course exactly what the screenwriters are doing, since he had his voice back at the end of the first movie. And in a cut scene from the second one for that matter.

Do the non-movie characters make a good showing in Nefarious?

Furman gives BB more than a bit of inner-monologue. Contrast this with characters like Snake-Eyes. Until recently, Snake-Eyes was almost completely wordless.

The non-movie guys do okay. Breakaway dies the "give BB guilt" death. The others are there to play up BB's leadership ability...because that is how BB is branded now.

The movie variants of the tapes look friggin' terrible though. They do not even look like movie characters.

Who else is running around in this book?

I'm starting to warm up to the idea of Bumblebee being in command over in G1 (and presumably here if I ever read the story) for the same reason I like G1 season three: it's a major change in the status quo. Someone other than Optimus Prime is in charge of the Autobots. Not that I'm a big fan of Bumblebee or convinced that he's suited for the role, but at least it's something new.

So is Megatron going to bust a gut laughing at him when he inevitably makes it back to Earth?

Dune Runner, Jolt, and Knock Out form Bumblebee's team. They're...okay. Don't really get a lot of characterization, they're mostly there to give Bumblebee motivation to let Soundwave go so he can advance the plot. This issue really comes across as The Bumblebee Show. The plot kinda stalls in this one too. How many issues is this supposed to be?

The Decepticons do a bit better, Scourge. Soundwave's been pretty cool so far, and Dirt Boss was great fun back in #2. And it looks like Ransack is going to get to do his thing next issue.

I think my major problem with this series is the art. Ugh. I'm almost certain most of the shots of humans are traced photographs, and the robots are flatly defined, over-greebled messes, which I guess is why almost everyone is colored in single swatches of bright, bold colors: just so you can tell who's who more easily. Some artists (Milne, for instance) can draw the Movie designs pretty well. This guy definitely cannot. And this guy is consistently drawing Bumblebee with his chest as the Classic Camaro design. *facepalm*

I'm really starting to wonder if Reign of Starscream was worth all the other beyond iffy Movie comics we've gotten.

I think this is mabye 4 or 5 issues.

Either way, this is nothing fantastic unless one is a hardcore fan of TF or just the TF movies. So far, this is really coming across as "we need to fill space" more than anything else.

I don't get it. Reign of Starscream was good, if the other movie comics aren't, then you can just ignore 'em.

That said, since almost all the toys I liked were non-movie, I'm tempted by "Nefarious" just to see 'em in action. Well, at least to see Ransack in action. That guy's awesome.
