Botcon 2009 toys thread.

The originals... ok, not exactly, but the original named "The TransFormers" anyway. Take THAT, Diaclone!

It was pretty good for a fan thing, but I dunlike what it did with the BW mythology, dig? It's my problem with new material hacking new bits onto the old story of BW when it doesn't quite fit. BW2 and Neo aside, because they were done when BW was current.

What'd you take issue with, specifically? I don't recall anything being particularly out of place, but I only watched it once, and it's been a while, so...

Looking decidedly crappy, to begin with, and then...I dunno. I'm too lazy to argue it. I just didn't like it.

So hey, the comic preview went up a little while ago...

I mainly want to comment on the fact that Scourge only appears in the framing story for the flashback that is the comic's main plot, making me wonder why the hell he's even included as a toy. It just reinforces my theory that they made this year's toys up at the last minute.

Considering the amount of development time that has to go into one of these, I doubt any of the figures was a last minute toy. Particularly if one of them has a new head sculpt, as Scourge does. The set may feel a bit slapped together, but I imagine there was a reason for each character's inclusion.

Having said that, Scourge does feel like he doesn't really fit with the set, but I doubt he was just tossed in at the last minute.

Scourge is from the "present" timeframe of the story, while the rest of the characters are from the flashback. As seen in the comic preview http://www.botcon.com/BotCon09/.
I disappear.

That's my whole point. He appears on a single page of the comic, as far as I can tell. So it's like...what the hell is he doing in the set? Surely the flashback story is going to have it's own set of villains (Leozak and Skyquake, right?), so why did they bother to throw Scourge in there? It just feels so arbitrary. Of course, this whole set is kind of a 'Huh?' deal, with Landshark the Random New Guy and Flak with a new headsculpt but not colored like Flak. Plus trying to pass off Earth vehicles as 'Cybertronian' forms. I dunno, maybe I've just been spoiled by the last few years' sets all having very unified themes, but this one just feels really slapdash.

New pics showed up of an EnerMirage repaint as what can only be described as Banzai-Tron.

It looks pretty cool, I must admit.

God damnit, how did they manage to do that so backwards? Scourge should be Enermirage with a new head, and Banzai-Tron as a repaint of CyberWays.

Yes. In fact, I bought EnerDreadwing specifically to use him as a Scourge stand-in.
