Universe2.0/Generations Review Thread

The modern comics universe has had such a different take on G1, one that's significantly represented by the Generations toys, so they share a forum. A modern take on a Real Cybertronian Hero. Currently starring Generations toys, IDW "The Transformers" comics, MTMTE, TF vs GI Joe, and Windblade. Oh wait, and now Skybound, wheee!

Sorry, bro, you're gonna have to wait until Cybertron Prime needs another repaint. C'mon, it's their new thing.

Gah, I don't like CyberPrime, he's clunky and boring and vastly overrated. Really hasn't aged well. I'd actually sooner get that bloody OTFCC Defensor that people like to harp on about, and I'm a bit sick of Fire Convoy too..

Okay, but what if they did an Animated Prime in light blue? (Shrug), maybe with a trailer, I dunno.

So, what's this OTFCC Defensor of which you speak?

Dude! You cannot pass up Inferno, he is truly fantastic. Looks much more boring than he is in package, as I believe Dom also noted. Vehicle mode's a bit panelly, but transformation's pleasing. The robot is superbly articulated with a great new hip design. It's kind of like the annoying way they worked it with Energon Omega Supreme/Classics Jetfire and Astrotrain, but there are swivels both above and below the thigh, plus hinges to the sides, so he can shift his weight nicely. Headsculpt's grand, looks nicely realistic as a robot, very stable and with non-intrusive automorph and cannon gimmicks. Aside from the panels (Which are only an issue when transforming him back to vehicle mode), I can't see anything you'd dislike about the toy.

I admit I'm biased because I love firetruck toys and had a childhood experience with G2 Inferno (Whom I never owned), but this is a shining example of Universe done right. Friends have mistaken him for actually being G1 Inferno, heh.

I want a retool as Hot Spot. Now, damnit.
I'm not a huge fan of firetrucks or of the character in specific, so it needs to have something special to get my money, and nothing you've mentioned sounds particularly special.

Sounds like it'd look too much like Animated Ultra Magnus.

See, that one's a camcorder, that one's a camera, that one's a phone, and they're doing "Speak no evil, See no evil, Hear no evil", get it?

I may have to review him in full, or take a decent gallery of pics. Inferno is one of the highlights of a line I felt was largely mediocre.

That Titanium Hot Spot you like so much? It's the real version of that, and it never happened.

People spend so much time worrying about whether a figure is "mint" or not that they never stop to consider other flavours.

Right, okay, but what, it was just gonna be Fire Convoy repainted into Defensor? Elaborate!

...It was gonna look exactly like the thing you already got. Except with a new Super Mode head. And not a Titanium.

My God, man, there's a Transformers Wiki for a reason! Yes, it's oddly going down a lot lately, but it's there, use it!

(Yes, that's vague, but you can surely find it from there!)

Yes, yes there is, but this was easier and I was pressed for time. Thanks!

EDIT: Having had a look, the super robot thing's nice lookin', to be sure, but the "Hot Spot" part's..eh, okay. Thing is, I likely wouldn't have gotten that and I could (and did) get the Titanium, so if there had to only be the one of 'em, I'm glad it went the way it did. All the same, that's probably the best use of "Super Robot homaged using one toy" that I've seen.

I've certainly seen enough pics of the static figure, so a lengthy review or photos of it doing something special might explain it.
