I had the same thought, "how the hell is he not on there? Is he not on there?" And he's not, I double-checked. I think they had a display for him at the 2011 or last year's Botcon in case he won, but at the last minute he didn't win.
Must have been last year. Arcee, BW Megatron, Prowl, Rodimus/Hot Rod and Ultra Magnus were the nominees, but only BW Megs and Ultra Magnus were entered to the Hall of Fame having won the fan vote. Kinda surprised there were no automatic entrees last year like in previous years...

Anyway...

1. Arcee - She's one of few female characters in the series and certainly the one that has appeared the most across the various TF franchises. She's due to be recognized.

2. Devastator - Like Shockwave said, it'd be nice to see a combiner represented in the Hall of Fame and he does seem to be the most iconic of them.

3. Cheetor - Similar reasons to Mako, and I always like to see characters from other series besides G1 represented.

4. Jetfire - Pretty sure I've voted for him before.

5. Ravage - ditto

I agree with Bay-movie Barricade. He's easily the most recognizable Decepticon (to me) in the first movie. He got lots of screen time in both car & bot modes, his signature police car look set him apart from all the other cons, he was the first con to speak, to speak to a human, to fight with an Autobot onscreen. A lot of movie firsts are attributed to Barricade. His popularity has carried over into both the WFC games & the TF Universe game. He represents the movie Decepticons better than anyone I think.

I whittled my list down from:

Ravage
Jetfire
Devastator
Mirage
Brawn
Swerve
Metroplex
Tankor
Lockdown
Arcee
Blackarachnia
Optimus Primal
KnockOut

to
  1. Optimus Primal - a great character, yet overshadowed by so many great characters on his show that it feels like lately he's gotten lost in the shuffle.
  2. Ravage - something about Ravage speaks loudly to this franchise, perhaps because of his odd "cassette to robo-jaguar", a nigh-useless alt mode on its own and a non-humanoid.
  3. Jetfire - famous from 2 franchises.
  4. Tankor - one of the standout characters from BM, one of the few philosophically strong villains, and for him to come from Rhinox is even more impressive.
  5. Devastator - mainly because he's the first and most recognizable, I guess thanks to the G1 cartoon.
And I'm not honestly that strong on the order.

I still can't believe Dom voted for Swerve, a nobody character who is only interesting thanks to the recent comics and even there he's not important, making him a relatively new character in that respect. That was my impetus as well, but I fought it because the character really hasn't earned his place in the HOF even though he's a lot of fun in MTMTE.

Last year they didn't include automatic entrees either, I think they wanted to seed the HOF and then kind of hand it off to the fans to do the rest of the work. Plus, the most obvious choices are used up at this point.
Jetfire - Pretty sure I've voted for him before.
Yup, last year he was your second choice with Ravage your first.

As much as I can understand the case for voting Tankor, I just figured there were better choices. Tankor also raises also sorts of questions about if Rhinox "counts" as Tankor, or even which iteration of Tankor (idiomatically or literally) we are going for.

Swerve is a relevant character in a TF book that is gaining mainstream acceptance. "More than Meets the Eye" is helping TF grow as a property in a very competitive comic market.

Galvatron doesn't count as Megatron, Scourge isn't Thundercracker, so no Tankor is not Rhinox in that respect. And we're going for Beast Machines, nobody is going for Octane.

All well and good, but for me that made Swerve more a flash in the pan right now than an enduring, "hall of fame" character.

Yeah, I know, I said I was surprised that there where none last year... Thing is, a lot of the automatic entries were on the fan nominations. Soundwave, Jazz, Grimlock and Shockwave were all nominated in 2010, and Grimlock, Jazz and Shockwave were nominated again in 2011. Soundwave was an automatic entry in 2011 (along with Ironhide and Ratchet) and Grimlock, Shockwave, and Jazz were automatically entered in 2012. Just seemed like Hasbro would keep having the runner(s) up automatically entered the next year.

I specified Beast Machines Tankor on my vote owing to Universe 2.0 toy and him showing up literally next to BM Tankor in the comics.

I was thinking that if we're still looking at a tie tomorrow, I'll do a runoff vote midday Sunday like we've done in the past, where you guys rank several characters by order of interest. But I am hoping that we get more votes today which break up the tie(s).

Almighty Unicron wrote:1. Unicron (seriously, why isn't he in it already?)

5. Scourge/Nemesis Prime
Unicron has fallen out of fashion I think thanks to the wonky way they used him in Prime.

With your vote on 5, I chose Scourge from RID to represent your vote, he had the most to do, was the best one in general.

Yeah but he's Octane and nobody would think he'd be HOF material. The name already has "Beast Machines" in my spreadsheet anyway.

Huh. And here I really liked Unicron in TFP. Most interesting use of the guy in years.

  1. Hot Rod (how is he not already in?)
  2. Cheetor (big name in the Beast era)
  3. Blackarachnia (we need a girl Transformer in the mix, and she's more interesting than Arcee ever has been)
  4. Omega Supreme (I've voted for him before, and he still seems to be a very memorable G1 character to me)
  5. Devastator (the original combiner)
