Yeah, LInkara's reviews are not terribly helpful. He goes on pointless digressions, creatively misreads things, and has a checklist of rote complaints (such as "bawwww, killing" or "bawwww, main character is not likeable"). But, Linkara riffing on one of the worst issues from the origional run is worth a look.

-5 minutes in, and we are already getting pointless digressions during the point by point summary, before getting to the bad parts of the comic.

Re: Linkara on Marvel TF issue 31
I maintain that 'Car Wash of Doom' isn't nearly as bad as it's often made out to be.
I might watch this once I get home, but then again, I could probably simulate watching a Linkara 'review' by cramming a couple golf balls into my mouth and reading a comic out-loud panel-for-panel and slobbering on incessantly about how dumb it is that a good guy died or an unlikeable bad guy secured some sort of victory. Then pausing for a second then saying '...buuuuuuuuuuut' in a really obnoxious way. Then finishing the review halfway through the video to go into some really shitty 'storyline' that no one cares about and certainly didn't sit down to watch a comic book review to be treated to.
Have I mentioned that I'm not the biggest Linkara fan? At least that cracker finally moved out of his parents' basement, he was doing the entire comic-reading population a disservice conducting his reviews from the family couch.
He makes me want to put together my own video comic reviews. Just to prove it can be done non-shittily.

It is a questino of style over substance. James "Angry Video Game Nerd" Rolfe has gone down the same road.
CBR has good, (though not video as far as I know), comic reviews. There are pages to check as well.
Like I have said before, I found Linkara's review of "Countdown" to be unfair in places.

Internet comic-review video guy. Think The Angry Video Game Nerd or the Nostalgia Critic, but with comics, and a voice that sounds like he's gargling a bag of marbles the whole time.Shockwave wrote:Who the hell is Linkara?

That analogy might help if I knew who Angry Video Game Nerd or Nostalgia Critic were. Seriously, the internet is a wierd place.BWprowl wrote:Internet comic-review video guy. I guess this is probably a good example of why I never post reviews on here (or anywhere for that matter). Like I've said many times, I really just don't think anyone gives a shit about my opinion and, on the reverse side of that, I tend to not care about others' opinions. Sort of. I dunno, I guess (and I know I've said this before too), I just have to wonder why I should listen to some Angry video game geek and why his opinion is more valid than mine. It just seems like anyone with an internet connection and too much time on their hands can make a name for themselves by yammering on their opinions about things with little to no prior expertise in the subject matter other than a passing interest. This is why it always annoys me when I see someone's career listed as "blogger". Really? Someone actually pays you for that shit? How the hell do I sign up for that? Cause I'd love to get paid enough money to live on to post my fucking opinion to the internet. Ugh. Sometimes I hate living in the future.

Damn dude, what do you even *do* on the internet? The Angry Video Game Nerd has been around since Penny-Arcade was still funny, I'm amazed you've never tripped over or been directed to one of his videos.Shockwave wrote:That analogy might help if I knew who Angry Video Game Nerd or Nostalgia Critic were. Well, if I can explain this decently, part of the idea is that a lot of these 'reviews' are less for actual informative purposes and more purely for the entertainment of watching some neckbeard get faux-angry/frustrated with a classic piece of crappy media. Hence, Linkara 'reviewing' an issue of a comic from 1987. Of course no one's going to know to go buy or avoid this comic based on a review of it today, it's not even in print! But (in theory) it's 'funny' to watch this guy read through the comic and be baffled/annoyed by how stupid so much of it supposedly is. Like watching the Nostalgia Critic suffer through Space Jam or the Angry Video Game Nerd get frustrated with how poorly-designed Castlevania 2 is.I guess this is probably a good example of why I never post reviews on here (or anywhere for that matter). Think, uh, think MST3K, but with more focus on the guys ripping on the material, and less so on seeing all the material itself!

I go here, tfw, bigbadtoystore, pay bills and occasionally buy/sell stuff on ebay. That's about it. I don't really "watch" stuff on the internet mostly because watching something that small irritates my eyes after a while. If I'm watching something for entertainment, I'd rather watch it on an actual tv screen.

Good news! Angry Video Game Nerd has DVDs! (Plus, you can just watch them in fullscreen. I realize that means it takes longer to buffer, but you know.)
AVGN is actually one of the better of these style blokes, and he is actually legitimately funny most of the time. He kind of started the whole thing, really, the same way Penny Arcade basically started webcomics. (In that, I'm sure there were people who did similar things before, but they were the first in their fields to become really popular and be genuinely good.) Most of the other folk in this ilk are...not that great. They all reek of trying too hard. (Also, AVGN does a lot of other cool stuff and tries to be a legitimate filmmaker. So he gets a pass.)
Anyway, here's something TF-related from him if you care:

Re: Linkara on Marvel TF issue 31
Well, you've never had to watch a Linkara 'review', and you went a long portion of your life without knowing who David Willis was. That's two wins for you so far, I'd say. I think your way works pretty well.Shockwave wrote:I go here, tfw, bigbadtoystore, pay bills and occasionally buy/sell stuff on ebay. That's about it.
