"Aligned" is not perfect by any stretch. But, Hasbro has put far more in to it that you are giving them credit for.
By G2 aesthetics, you mean ugly colours? Yeah, I guess you could, but why?

See, this is why you're a wrestling valet and not a standup comic. Stop that.Dominic wrote:By G2 aesthetics, you mean ugly colours? Yeah, I guess you could, but why?
Weeellll, it seems like a pretty half-assed attempt at creating a unified story world, just saying "Oh yeah, certain elements from certain stories sometimes appear in others when we feel like it." Prime and WfC being the core continuity for a while (as I've said, it won't last) is one thing, but shoving in *some* things from Armada, Energon or whatever too? Honestly, I was happier when all the TF series took place in their own universe, with crossovers being actual crossovers. And if I have to ask, "Is G2 part of aligned?" because my research can't answer such a simple question, then it's lazy.Dominic wrote:not sure why you think "Aligned" is lazy...
So nah, I'm not gonna give Hasbro credit for "trying" if their trying doesn't seem to have any real substance or payoff. It's a waste of time and paper. I think Yoda said something about that once.
But like I've said, I've not got a problem with it being the basis for this game, so long as youse guys don't mind explaining the intricacies to me.

It's...It's not 'like' that. You're going about it the wrong way. It's not, "Is G2 part of the continuity?" Because *nothing* is part of the continuity. It's all new shit. It's just that some of this new shit will draw on things that happened in the old shit.
In other words, Velocitron appearing in Exiles does not mean anything from Cybertron happened in this continuity--it's literally just a place called Velocitron showing up, and things happen. Much in the way that this Optimus Prime is not the same Optimus Prime from G1 or Cybertron or the movies, this Velocitron is not the Velocitron from Cybertron. It's a different thing entirely. It's not like you have to figure out if the events of Cybertron happened in this universe. Of course they didn't, it's entirely different.
You asking these questions is sort of like going into Batman Begins and wondering why Joe Chill killed Batman's parents instead of Jack Napier.

Re: Power Core Combiner RPG outline
So it's just a new series, then? And Velocitron being in it is just like Cybertron being in both G1 and RiD? An answer like that would've assuaged so much unnecessary pain.
However, that surely means it *wouldn't* make sense for me to utilise G2 aesthetics, and that I should base them solely around PCC / Prime / WfC. Non?

Well, it is a new series that makes a point of drawing on 25+ years of content without drawing on the baggage.
Explain what you mean by "G2" though. Do you mean the hideous colours? There are at least 2 PCC characters with hideous colours. So, hey, your character will fit right in.
If you are talking about visual representations, that is simply not an

Actually, I have barely been to wrestling in about 2 months. I went to a show on Thanksgiving (UFO's "Harvest Havoc")and helped with the set-up and breaking down a bit and I caught the tail end of a VCW show a few weeks back. But, I got there so late that they did not need my help with anything beyond "being an audience plant".See, this is why you're a wrestling valet and not a standup comic. Stop that.

Re: Power Core Combiner RPG outline
Well, what do you mean by "G2" aesthetics? I hate to repeat Dom's bad joke, but the only thing that stood out in G2 was the garish color schemes, otherwise most characters just looked like they did in G1.
Most of the character possibilities that I have presented here were based on a campaign taking place in the early issues of Marvel G1. My players had decided to play as Decepticons so the base of operations was Blackrock Aerospace Plant. I suppose if we're going to place this in Aligned, we could add places like Velocictron to the list.

Re: Power Core Combiner RPG outline
Well, Velocitron is a whole new planet. But, yeah, the Decepticons would need a base of operations on/around Earth, as would the Autobots.
Given that a big part of PCC is "experimental tech", some kind of manufacturing or research setting would make sense.

Re: Power Core Combiner RPG outline
Did you guys not play with any of the original G2 toys? You can't really think the Laser Rods had the same aesthetics as the original Autobot cars. Increased poseability, slim limbs with chunky extremities, simplified heads with visors and mouthplates...
But, anyway, it's all academic if it gets a "yes". I can just submit a pic of my characters, can't I? Hell, I'll draw everyone else's OCs if they want, and if I can find time.
...Seriously, can we please centralise this on Earth? Galaxy-spanning RPG is just... a massive turnoff for me. I can understand including Cybertron, and maybe the odd alien planet in a G1 cartoon plot devicey kinda way, but... eh. Well, I'll see what everyone else wants.

Re: Power Core Combiner RPG outline
Holy cats, how did I miss this thread? I'd be down for something like this, late as I apparently am to the party.
Setting it on Earth would actually make a degree of sense, since all the PCC characters (bar Dinobots) feature modern Earthen vehicle modes. Have fun with people noticing scale differences if you're playing Double Clutch and his Rallybots though! Anyway, we could always hop off to another planet or something for another 'Arc' of the campaign once the previous part was done, but jumping planets every Adventure or so would get tiresome, if you ask me.
Yeah G, you may just need to look up pics of the PCC guys to get a feel for the aesthetics (which, honestly, is pretty much Generic Transformer Aesthetic). That said, Undertow is somewhat G2-ish, in my opinion (and would force Dom/whoever to come up with situations where a guy with a boat altmode could get some usage!).
If we do end up playing a mixed Autobot/Decepticon team, interaction with the factions in non-combat situations is something that would need to be taken into consideration. The Autobots in the party may be able to pass the 'Cons off as 'prisoners' to any NPC Autobots they encounter, but NPC Decepticons would be more likely to demand their allies to execute such 'prisoners' on the spot.
Yeah, I get into the interaction portions in the RPGs I play. I am one of those guys whose first course of action is to roll Diplomacy or whatever to try to talk my way out of a conflict before the fight even actually starts. It's been largely ignored so far in the topic, but I'm interested in how interaction/conversation with NPCs could be worked into gameplay. It's a lot more interesting than the 'Knock down the door and murder everything' approach most RPGs and GMs seem to encourage/go for. I'd like to 'role-play', you know?
Power scaling is always an issue. My brother ran a Dark Heresy campaign for my friends and I for about a year, and around halfway through, we'd become leveled-up enough with such high-end gear that we were cutting through mid-level daemons with ease. Part of the problem was that the GM bent too easily to players who were desperate to get their hands on 'cool' gear and abilities (some people get really militant about the prospect of acquiring imaginary items and getting to scribble the name down on a piece of paper; I'm in this more to explore and find out where things are going, keep things interesting and such), and when he finally cracked down and started telling people they weren't going to just trip over whatever epic vehicle they wanted this week, some of the more spoiled players got indignant with him and tried to not take no for an answer. That game is currently On Hold.
Been playing a D&D game with a slightly rejiggered group the last few weeks. I'm enjoying D&D's more detailed combat system as compared to DH, and this GM impressed me by having us use our skills to deal with 'natural' issues and such that came up, and not just murdering something every ten squares or so.

Re: Power Core Combiner RPG outline
I actually didn't play with any of the G2 toys (even ones that were G1 repaints).
