Transformers - ongoing series

The modern comics universe has had such a different take on G1, one that's significantly represented by the Generations toys, so they share a forum. A modern take on a Real Cybertronian Hero. Currently starring Generations toys, IDW "The Transformers" comics, MTMTE, TF vs GI Joe, and Windblade. Oh wait, and now Skybound, wheee!

Issue 27:
And, irony. LIttle miss "sneaky snitchy" calls out a former colleague about being dishonest. Prowl's narrative sounds like something from a detective movie or novel....in the same issue that Spike is explained as viewing his life as an action movie. Aside: The explanation of Spike's character is pretty close to what I have been saying for most of the series. Costa does not differentiate between (professional) soldier) and (habitual) warrior. But, Spike's poor leadership is explicated clearly here, and was for shadowed from the beginning.

Grade: A

Yeah, it's good to see that the characters within the story know Spike isn't a good leader. Not that it hasn't been obvious, but still... nice to know it's deliberate and not just poor writing. It's been consistent enough that I figured it was on purpose, but you never know.

I almost wonder why they even bother calling him Spike Witwicky as nothing about him resembles the character of the same name. Age, personality, appearance, his relationship with his dad, morals, profession, nothing about this guy says, "Spike Witwicky" to me. They could have just as well called him Lennox.

True, but I wonder if that's what McCarthy had in mind when he introduced Spike in AHM. I don't know if Costa's take on the character is the same as McCarthy's or not.

To be fair, you could say the same thing about characters like Galvatron, Goldbug, and Hot Rod/Rodimus in IDW.

A few days ago,I finished reading IDW TF G-1 On-going issues #26 & #27. Here's my comments below:

I still think, "The last story on earth" stories are a pure waste of time & paper. it just feel like a two page story stretched out into three comics issues. all the autobots are doing is following around spike everywhere he goes like that Television show called "Cheaters"

As far as the on-going issue #26,Which i'll call "The cybertron return adventures" I really hate it how IDW keeps switching & replacing writters whenever they feel like it. I originally got excited about Choas because I thought it was going to explore & delve into the origins & backstory of where the new enemy threat called "D-VOID" came from, why he exist & why he hates transformers & wants to eat them all. I kinda wanted the "D-VOID" to be the center stage in the comics issues & be in almost all 8 comics issues & not just one or two at the end of chaos near november & december 2011.

NOW,It appears the new writter is going to only be doing one or two issues dedicated to the "D-VOID" character in november & December. my guess is it's all action packed & doesn't give any back story on the "D-Void"

Regarding how I liked what happened in issue #26. I did love all the action. but honestly all the action without a story arc is a pure waste of time for the reader. I suspose i'm happy megatron freed himself & is gonna be getting his ultimate batle royal of sorts.

SORRY,I Just feel like the writters are just trying to waste time with stuff that doesn't matter. their not really focusing on the important stuff. it just seems like all the important suff in the on-going is gonna get barely a comic issue to tell it's tale.

The important stuff in the on-going & Choas i'm referring to is as follows: "D-Void",all the decepticons combiners that are still left on the earth. thundercracker, arcee & Springer.

I must admit I do find it amusing how the current new writters are going the extra mile to make fun of,embarass & mock Bumblebee's new leadership of the autobots title. bumblebee is in charge on earth in "the last story on earth". but prowl is running the game & crew as far as comming up with plans goes. it appears every autobot is answering & reporting to ultra magnus on earth as far as the strongest leader muscle bot goes. bumblebee seems & feels like a useless figure head like the queen of england is.

next year in 2012,I'm gonna go the "06" Route & buy my TF IDW on-Going comics every 6 months in Trade paper back format. hopefully Amazon is up to date on this & released the TPB on their site as soon as the 6th issue ends. I don't have the patience to wait any longer that 6 months per 6 issues. I don't feel like waiting 7 or 8 months plus just to read 6 comics issues collected into a TPB format.

MY LAST WORDS: I really miss Dreamwave, they just seemed like thety had better TF art & better well written TF stories & arcs/plots.

Oddly enough, I'm enjoying "The Last Story on Earth" more than the Cybertron portions of Chaos, which I didn't expect. I agree that not enough happens in any given issue, but I think that's largely because the author is writing a movie that he sees in his head rather than a comic. So the pacing isn't quite appropriate.

I liked Dreamwave quite a bit, but I like IDW as well. I'm glad they seem to feel like paying the bills is important so we keep getting Transformers comics, rather than having series end mid storyline.

I would guess that McCarthy and Costa were playing from the same rule book with Spike. There are parts of AHM where Spike is played up as an action hero and/or other character are noticing that he plays the action hero. (I forget who wrote the story in "Coda", but we can assume that it was made to fit with the ongoing. But, look at the convesations his parents have about him, and the scenes of him in the city.)

I am wondering who was on the phone with whatsername. I would guess it is one of the nativists who want the TFs off the planet.

The preview of issue 28 is up:

So far, issue 28 looks like a big fight scene. There are a few good character moments, but nothing apparent that is really worth picking up the book for.
