That makes it sound like the story has meaning to me.
Yeah, but the meaning was that nothing meant anything anymore, and that nothing would mean anything else in the future (but just in a different way of not meaning anything).

It makes perfect sense!

If Morrison was making a point about authorial intent and editorial control, then how is the story about being meaningless? The meaning is the point, not meaninglessness.

For a while Brian Clevinger (Atomic Robo etc.) was going to write Firestorm post-Brightest Day. Then the reboot happened and killed all that:

The whole thing was a metatext set up by Morrison, because he thought that authorial intent and editorial control over comic stories was robbing them of their 'life'. Too many stories were being written with characters because writers just wanted to tell a particular story and used whatever book they happened to be writing to do it, and other characters would have stupid changes and stuff happen to them on account of DC editorial wanting an overhaul/reboot whenever.
Ref: Various scenes with the monitors.

I have also seen analysis of said scenes that read them as indictments of writers and readers, as well as editors. But, over-all, Prowl is on the money.
But yeah, tl;dr Final Crisis is about how comic stories don't/shouldn't have any outside meaning and should become entirely character based/driven instead.
It is less a question of the meaning being "outside" than being there at all though.

It's not about 'getting it', I just flat out don't agree the stories point is that there is no meaning.

Well what did you think Final Crisis was about, what did you get out of it? I'm genuinely interested in your thoughts on it, since while I do feel like most of what Morrison was trying to do with the story was pretty clear, there's still a *lot* there that's subjective and open to interpretation (and pointedly depends on your own opinion of comics). It's a ridiculously metatextual, overly symbolic piece of work, with tons of layers open for discussion. I'd call it the Evangelion of DC Comics, but it's not nearly overrated enough.

That is basically what I was getting at when I said several pages back to Dom that someone can find tons of meaning in "Infinite Crisis". The same thing applies to "Final Crisis".

I never disputed that John's put ideas into "Infinite Crisis". You are the one denying FC's premise.

In any case, it is a skip week for me. (Too tired to hit the comic shop this week. "New Avengers" and "Moon Knight will be there next week.)

Here is a random review:

Powerman and Ironfist #1 (of 5):
Apparently, Ironfist is not teamed with a younger Powerman....and is effectively being billed secondary to his sidekick. Not a bad issues. Weighs in on the high end of filler. I am not sure that it is worth tracking down the compilation though.
Grade: C

Because I don't see that the premise is about being meaningless. There is so much in Final Crisis for it not to mean anything.
