The modern comics universe has had such a different take on G1, one that's significantly represented by the Generations toys, so they share a forum. A modern take on a Real Cybertronian Hero. Currently starring Generations toys, IDW "The Transformers" comics, MTMTE, TF vs GI Joe, and Windblade. Oh wait, and now Skybound, wheee!
Writing for the trade is common now. So, you might be on to something.
"whoawhoawhoa, we don't wanna get involved we're just here to watch". And the Decepticons let them! In
I had no problem with this element of the series. The Autobots were not there to help people or save planets. They were there to counter Decepticon efforts at expansion that would have eventually harmed Autobot interests. Why the would they stop Decepticon on Decepticon fratricide? And, the Decepticons had more important problems to deal with than guys who were not an immediate threat.

True, I guess I just found it funny more than anything else.
Escalation 1and 2: This is where the pacing starts to pic up and things get good. The first issue the Machination enacts their plan to capture Sunstreaker. It's a little drawn out maybe, but not nearly as bad as Infiltration. If nothing else, it sets the tone of the series that it's not just the Decepticons that are a threat to the Autobots on Earth and that the humans are more than capable of dealing with Cybertronians. It's a tone that continues into the current Ongoing. It also has humans doing something interesting beyond "identifyable kid character" (zzzzzzz....). The second issue Jazz and Wheeljack investigate Sunstreaker's death only to find that his remains are faked. Hi quality knock off to be sure, but fake nonetheless. The Autobots, particularly Prime realize the more horrible implications of this and resolve to find Sunstreaker, dead or alive. So far, I really like Escalation. In reading it post AHM and Ongoing I really felt like it was on the level with some of the more interesting parts of the Ongoing. I was particularly reminded of Issue 7 where Spike takes out Scrapper. I was also glad to see that some of those themes from earlier in the run made into AHM and Ongoing and have since been handled well. Furman brought the stick and Costa ran with it. And is still running.
In hindsight, I can even forgive the Brasnya fight, which rankled me in '06. I was, to put it blunty, sick of post-Litvenenko British whining about Russia, and that association (likely incoorrectly), coloured my perception of the Brasnya skirmish.
The pacing on Sunstreaker's and Hunter's abduction is perfect. It felt like just enough time had passed for it to have been possible, but not enough time to require the characters to sit around doing nothing after recoving their bearings.

-notes that IDW was the first time that Headmasters were being consistently right...until they both got killed.
In 2006, a former Russian spy, Alexander Litvenenko, was allegedly murdered while living in London as an English citizen.
By "allegedly" I mean "was". The long and short is that he left the Russian intelligance bureau and moved to England. England was happy to have him as he was feeding them all kinds of good dirt about the Russian's intelligence services. Oh, and Litvenenko was pretty much asking Russia to come in and kill him by virtue of the fact he was taunting Moscow and talking all kinds of smack about Vladimir Putin.
Eventually, somebody in Moscow got sick of this and had Al L. whacked.
It was a targeted killing and nobody got hurt, (aside from LItvenenko of course). But, the English acted iike it was the blitz all over again. To here England tell it, you would have thought that Russians were killing random people and eating little British babies. (Seriously, you there were people on ATT back in the day who argued "TRUKK NOT MUNKY" who looked more grown up next to England in 06.)
When I saw that "Escalation", (written by an Englishman), was touching on Russia, my initial reaction was less than favorable. In hindsight, I doubt Furman was joining in the collective tantrum. But, my patience for England at the time was low enough that I (probably wrongly) assumed he was.

-seriously, it was one targeted killing. Get the fuck over it chaps.

As someone who was- believe it or not- living in England in 2006, I'd like to request that you learn the difference between "the English" and "the English media". No working class person- and probably no middle class person, for that matter- gave a shit about Russia taking out a defector on "our soil". You must realise you're grouping me in with all these insults. Semantics *are* important.
