All Hail Megatron Discussion thread

The modern comics universe has had such a different take on G1, one that's significantly represented by the Generations toys, so they share a forum. A modern take on a Real Cybertronian Hero. Currently starring Generations toys, IDW "The Transformers" comics, MTMTE, TF vs GI Joe, and Windblade. Oh wait, and now Skybound, wheee!

I still maintain that it's impossible to gain any sort of continuity from the original cartoon. And if there were really that many mistakes per episode, then that's gotta be the worst made cartoon ever (I wonder if they ever had this problem on the "Flintstones"?) The Matrix has continuously been the glowing breifcase. You know, everone fights over the briefcase but the audience doesn't get to know what's in it. Then someone opens it and it's glowing inside, but you still never get to see what was in it. The Matrix is basically that for TFs. I mean, it even has the "glows when opened" part!

Yes, acid-induced insanity is a convenient excuse for sudden changes of motivation. Presumably Scourge and the other Decepticons just caught it off him later.

Let's hope IDW's Megs doesn't get the ol' acid bath and forget his plans.

The problem with the Matrix as a glowing briefcase is that glowing briefcases are meant to hold an element of mystery, and we know *exactly* what the Matrix does; it destroys planet-sized Transformers without damaging anyone inside, lets you talk to your ancestors, cures humans, animals and robots alike of a manmade hate plague, and can be stuck in a floating life-giving yellow orb to let you meet with a bearded robot holding a black christmas tree.

The shine is off the apple, and we're not even sure it isn't an orange.
COME TO TFVIEWS oh you already did

To be fair, some say that it's the diamonds from Resevoir Dogs in the briefcase.

"You're a machine. But not like them."

"Of course not. I'm Optimus frickin' Prime, who are you supposed to be? Alpha Trion?"

My thoughts on the Matrix in IDW:

-Autobots like Matrix.

-Matrix have no obvious value, but look pretty with shiny lights.

-not having Matrix makes Autobots sad.

-Megatron having Matrix would make Autobots sad.

-sad. Sad.

-better to not tell them about the Matrix.

-Autobots happy, (sort of), that way.

You're leaving out the part about the Matrix is (in Starscream's words) "supposedly some device of ultimate power".

Ah, but even Starscream is unsure of the value of the Matrix. The Matrix's chief utility is as a piece of recognizable bling. Starscream sits and stares at it for a couple of days before he decides that it does not live up to whatever hype it has. Remember, in AHM #13, (written by Costa), Starscream is getting ready to throw the stupid thing in the trash, or out the window....(I cannot remember.)

While he is getting ready to do that, Shrapnel walks up and is all like, "Wow! What cracker-jack box did you find *that* in? Duuuuuude!"

And then Starscream is all like, "Wah?"

And, Shrapnel is like, "Dude, you got the Matrix. It is some awesome blingy blingy."

And, then Starscream catches on and his just like, "Well, duh. I am da man. That is why I have it."

Starscream isn't one to put a lot of faith in anything, even Megatron. The point is, it goes to show the Matrix is seen as a device of great power by the Transformers in IDW, even if it hasn't displayed any.

And then there was that whole thing in "Revelation" between the Dead Universe's Darkness and the Matrix.

The Matrix isn't "bling" in IDW. There is clearly more to it than that.

The point is that the Matrix is not universally recognized as having fabulous powers beyond being bling-erfic. Statscream recognized the Matrix as having cultural and symbolic value. It is not unreasonable that other characters on both sides would share that view. Just because the readers knowt he Matrix is stupidly over-powered, there is no reason to assume that the characters all buy into that idea.
