Anybody give a crap about the movie line right now?

Money, violence, sex, computer graphics, scatalogical humor, racism, robots designed to be rednecks but given European accents, and maybe another sequel to the saga... what's not to love? TF m1, Revenge of the Fallen, Dark of the Moon and now Age of Extinction.

Anybody give a crap about the movie line right now?

Post by JediTricks »

The forum is dead, the pegs are full of Sea Assault Ravage, Dlx Ironhide, voyager Seaspray and Banzaitron, even the scouts aren't burning up the shelves despite being quite boss. So, has the Hunt for the Decepticons packaging killed everybody's interest in the movie line or something? What's going on???

See, that one's a camcorder, that one's a camera, that one's a phone, and they're doing "Speak no evil, See no evil, Hear no evil", get it?

I was never much interested in the second movie toys to begin with. Not liking the movie played a role in this, and the fact that many of the toys were modified to cut costs late in the design stage more or less took care of the rest.

My skip rate for this line was ~90%, my highest since "Energon".

Still, I am not going to blame packaging for slow sales. At this point, the movie toys are simply old hat. They do not even have the novelty value that toys from the firse movie would have had. I am also seeing red card movei toys sitting on shelves, and I live in a high traffic area. The only thing that seems to be selling is "Generations", which Hasbro seems least interested in pushing.

I think I could give, at most, about half a crap. It isn't the packaging, though, that's actually a welcome change from the ROTF packaging. It's something different, anyway, which is a relief after so long with the same thing. It's just that the toys in HFTD just don't look worth my reduced toy-collecting dollar.

Seaspray looks pretty neat, but not really twenty bucks worth of rad. Of course, I thought the same thing about Bludgeon at one point.

Speaking of which, it's sort of amazing that Banzai-Tron actually sort of looks like Banzai-Tron, and not just "blue and green Bludgeon". Especially when the mold's first use looked so damn much like Bludgeon. So as much as I'd like to support Hasbro's efforts toward making really good repaints, I can't shell out the extra twenty bucks for a toy I already have.

As for everything else in the yellow packaging, I might get Breacher, but as much as I love the Scout class, it's harder to justify damn near ten bucks for 'em. And other than those guys, the rest seems like recycled ROTF stuff that I was bored with months ago. When there's so much great stuff coming out in Generations, it's tough to care much about a crappy Ravage repaint or another damn Bumblebee.

I'm only really interested in Generations characters that are G1 remakes. Theoretically that means I should be interested in Banzai-tron and Seaspray as well, but $20 Transformers are hard to justify these days.

So yeah, no love for the movie line from me.

I wonder, if the TF brand as a whole is cannabalizing itself. Is "Generations" cutting into RotF or PCC?

This lack of interest in movie stuff is making my chances for shilling off my unwanted movie crap look rather slim.

For the most part, yeah, I'm not really all that interested in the movie line right now. There are a couple figures that I think look pretty cool, but I'm more interesting in upcoming Generations figures.

I'm interested in it! Or I would be, if I could find anything beyond the first wave of the yellowbox stuff here. I really want Hailstorm. Terradive and Tomahawk look like positively spiffy figures, I do hope they filter out here. Also want Axor because I'm a dumb sucker, and could totally see something going on there character-wise. S'right, for the first time in ages, I'm actually a little excited for the possibilities of the fiction! Imagine Axor and Banzai-Tron working together as some kind of mercenary Action Master team. That's awesome, right there.

People spend so much time worrying about whether a figure is "mint" or not that they never stop to consider other flavours.

Who said this was club fiction? Those were my ideas. I mean, they wouldn't be called Action Masters. That'd be dumb. But I'd pair them up because of that. I mean I'm excited for the fiction possibilities 'I' could create. I mean, sure, that's fanfiction...but they're toys, man. There's always some element of fanfictioning involved.
