October Hauls
Suck it, everybody else! I get to start one!
Mail Haul came in:
-Fight Club 2-disc DVD. Bought it used on Amazon for like $5, totally perfect condition.
-WWE's Monday Night Wars DVD. Because it was cheap and it put me over $25 for free shipping.
-Yu Yu Hakusho season 1! Boosh.

Re: October Hauls
This doesn't go anywhere so I figured this is the best place to talk about it: Hey Dom, I finally may have found a use for those numerous DVD-Rs you sent me a year ago. I've rediscovered a passion for Japanese wrestling over the last few days so I'll be using them to burn matches to DVD-Rs and watching them on my 360.

Negima! vol. 31 - This is the big crazy one where a bunch of people die, Shiori/Luna/Fake Asuna finally gets unmasked, and we finally learn the truth about the Magical World (Spoilers: It and a large portion of its citizens are a purely magical construct projected over the planet Mars). I love this series.

Re: October Hauls
Nothing. Not even a half-assed lazy custom.
Nothing at all.
Well, I did go to a wrestling show on Saturday, but that does not really count.
Dom
-no, nothing. Seriously. Just letting you all know.

Re: October Hauls
Bought a couple of CDs on Friday, does that count for anything?
Me First and the Gimme Gimmes Go Down Under: The world's best pop-punk supergroup asks for eight bucks of my money for five cover songs by Australian artists. I, being a sucker, say, "Yes, sir. Here's my money!". I have no regrets, the cover of "I'm All Out of Love" is worth the price of admission alone.
Portugal The Man: In the Mountain In The Cloud: Saw these guys on Conan last Thursday and thought "Well, yeah, I want this". They've got a little bit of a Ziggy Stardust-era Bowie thing going on, a little bit of a Queen influence in there, at least one song puts me in mind of the Scissor Sisters. Great stuff, been playing this pretty much non-stop since Friday night.
Also, I got some moonshine. I love it so much.

Re: October Hauls
Hey, 'nother haul. So some Wal-Marts have these coupons for five dollars off any DOTM purchase of $5.99 or more, so I grabbed one of those and used it to get Guzzle. He's pretty all right. He's right up there with Powerglide, a toy that's definitely a movie guy, but close enough to serve as a Classics thing.

Re: October Hauls
Figma Suruga Kanbaru arrived. Fuck *yes*. Mayoi was just a nice toy from a cool show, but Kanbaru is hands-down my favorite Bakemonogatari character, so my anticipation for this figure was high, to say the least. Luckily for my easily-shattered dreams, she lives up to my expectations. Whereas Mayoi felt substantial simply because of the size of the accessories she came with, the plethora of smaller-sized goodies Kanbaru includes really add a lot to the figure. At the top of the list is the extra ‘monkey paw’ arm, which includes two swappable hands just for itself. The basketball and (hands for holding it) was actually kind of a pleasant surprise, seeing as despite her informed status as the team ace, we never actually see Basketball Lesbian play the game in the series itself. She feels a little shortchanged on hands since three of her alternates are just variations on open ones, but I can see where it was a necessity, and she comes with a whole extra arm, so it’s not that big a deal. Plus she makes up for it in faces. I like that instead of a stock ‘angry’ face, they went with more of a ‘shocked/repulsed’ look that works well for her, but not as well as her other alternate expression, which is one of the best I’ve ever seen on a toy like this. It’s describable as somewhere between ‘Shut up bitch, I know it’ and ‘This is me giving a fuck’ that just looks so entertainingly cocky that it winds up being endlessly entertaining. The last face is the all-black one that goes with the raincoat to recreate her ‘Rainy Devil’ persona. I was really surprised when I heard the raincoat would be included, since it’s a pretty elaborate thing to throw in after everything else, and I definitely appreciate the extra effort on Max Factory’s part. At first I wasn’t too crazy about it once I had it in hand, since the instructions want you to put it on by pulling the arms off, then putting the raincoat on and then trying to wrestle the arms back on through the sleeves. It is *endlessly* less frustrating to just pop her head off, rotate her arms up, and slip the coat on that way. The resulting effect once you’ve got everything together is quite cool, and they even included and extra ‘claw’ attachment for her stand so you could connect her to the arm even when the peg-hole in her back is blocked by the coat. These guys really thought of everything. Only other thing I could have asked for was a non-bandaged left arm to recreate her post-‘Suruga Monkey’ appearance, and that’s really not all that necessary, honestly.
No I will never stop rambling about my stupid animu dolls. I just threw down a pre-order for Nadeko who’s due to arrive in December, so that’ll be one more on the list.
Anyway, I also stopped by Target after a monumentally stressful day at work yesterday, and they’d apparently heard about it, so they put out new Transformers to cheer me up! I was *this* close to grabbing a Drag Strip purely out of morbid curiosity, but then I noticed a Reverb chilling on the shelf below behind some Action Sets, and decided to grab the one who I hadn’t already heard sucked. I was a little unsure since the last motorcycle-ish HA Basic, Tailpipe, really let me down, but fortunately Reverb turned out to be the opposite of that, IE: Awesome. I admit, when pics of this guy first surfaced I wasn’t crazy about the more ‘fantasy’ altmode, but it results in some really clever transformation tricks (love the way the top ‘cycle’ portion slides all over and reorients on the plate the hoverfan is attached to), with a slick, well-proportioned robot with some cool visual cues (the big hoverfan centered behind the body looks really nice). Damn posable too, love the double knees and ball elbows with the in-swinging joint. The vehicle mode’s still a little silly, especially with just the one big hoverfan off to one side (ol’ Detour’s in for a lopsided ride), but at least it’s unique, I guess. And if the weapon mode isn’t a joke, the way they apparently expect you to stand it up on the little missile pod clipped to the bottom of it is (spoilers: no way that’s happening). I kinda want to hook him up to Soundwave once one of his toys comes out though, since Reverb could almost work as a *bitchin’ speaker system* in this mode (name works more that way too). Still, the transformation and robot mode on this one are enough to make me happy I got him, and it’s the first HA Basic I’ve been really impressed by since Thunderhead (and while with Thunderhead I’m mostly in love with the concept, it’s the execution on this one that does it for me).
Kinda wondering where the newest wave (Guzzle) of Cyberverse Commanders is in my area…

My girlfriend painted me a plate with a pattern comprised of Godfrey Ho-style ninjas. I will be eating off it tonight.
Bought a new zipper to finally fix my favourite pair of non-smart trousers. Feels good.
