Lets discuss the Classics 2.0 Onslaught toy in great detail.

The modern comics universe has had such a different take on G1, one that's significantly represented by the Generations toys, so they share a forum. A modern take on a Real Cybertronian Hero. Currently starring Generations toys, IDW "The Transformers" comics, MTMTE, TF vs GI Joe, and Windblade. Oh wait, and now Skybound, wheee!

Lets discuss the Classics 2.0 Onslaught toy in great detail.

I figured O6 would get a kick out of this & love this thread,as he loves this toy.

MY 2 cents:

Personally I love this toy,it looks like pure awesome in both modes.

NO,I don't consider this toy as a proper update based off the 1985 Generation one character called "Onslaught" in the cartoon/toy line.
At best I consider this classics 2.0 Ultra toy AS A HOMAGE NOT A UPDATE. As the classics 2.0 ultra toy isn't a combiner, not a truck cab with a flat bed hauling military equipment. the classics 2.0 Ultra toy looks like a weird G.I Joe tank vechicle. SADLY not even the robot modes for the classics 2.0 ultra toy resembles the 1985 onslaught toy. their are no parts/pieces/sculpt that tries to resemble 1985 onslaught. At best the colors pay a loose homage to the 1985 toy but are not 100% accurate even in decals.

I consider the energon/movie verse 5-in-1 combiner core leader as a better update to the 1985 onslaught character. due to it being a combiner. having a truck cab mode pulling some sort of tiny trailer. the robot mode sort of looks like the 1985 toy.

WHY DO I EVEN LIKE THE CLASICS 2.0 ULTRA SIZED ONSLAUGHT TOY???
Because as a stand alone toy dis-regarding the update/homage factors. the classics 2.0 ultra sized Onslaught toy is pure awesome.
I Like how powerful & vicious the toy looks in both mode. the toy has a extremly high sculpt/design. it's well proportioned, decently poseable, decent height. I love the claw weapons it has in both modes. the toy has great weapons. i love the fact the light up gimmicks don't ruin the toy nor get in the way of poseability. the shield looks great. the toy is bulky yet sleek at the same time. because of the over-all robot design/sculpt it makes for some decent poses on display shelves.

I have this toy on my display shelf & it looks amazing. it evokes such a powerful warrior design in both modes.

I love the tank alt mode because it's unique & non-generic. after 20+years I hate the same old booring hero megatron type generic tank design. I need newer tank designs to grab my interest & make me buy the toy.

I love the fact the toy has so many weapons in both modes. like the dual tank turrents, the shields, forarm knife/missle weapon.

For me,a color scheme can make or break a mold. often times i'll pass on a new TF toy if I hate/loate the color scheme. I'll simply wait for a better recolor. needless to say clasics 2.0 ultra sized Onslaught has a extremly cool color scheme. that is not annoying, nor ugly & all the different colors blend into each other in sync/perfectly.

So i'd rate the classics 2.0 ultra sized onslaught toy a 10 out of 10. it's a must get mold as it was made awesome.

Ok, I'll bite. I love this one too. Although I feel the opposite about the homage/update thing (I think the Energon toy is homage, this is update). I would have liked to have seen it designed to be a combiner but as a standalone it doesn't bother me. I like the transformation scheme, it's simple but not insultingly simple and everything locks firmly together in both modes. I even like the Botcon Clench repaint with the new head (yet another flatnose cab/trailer Decepticon character that got used for this mold). I have entertained the idea of making custom parts to combine various other customs into a Classics style Bruticus. The "Clastrotain" mold would be an obvious one for Blast off, Warpath could probably be used for Brawl (or perhaps a better one would be the Skullgrin/Straxus mold), The only question would be who to use for Vortex and Swindle.

I think the mold would make a decent war within Grimlock Dynobots toy. all that's needed is a different head sculpt & a G-1 Grimlock color scheme.

The vehicle form is a little too Earthmode for War Within (imo), but I agree that it could work for maybe a movieverse Grimlock. Like you said, new head different paint app, it really could work.

Yeah,I'd accept a movie verse Grimlock using that mold.

The toy actually does work as Onslaught, (or as Dualor).

He is a SWAT tank, which evokes images of urban warfare. Urban combat would require unique tactics, Onslaught's specialty.

Dualor? No, he was Dolrailer, or Dualrailer, probably for his back cannons.

Anyway, there's just so much about this toy that I've already said why he's so perfectly an Onslaught update. The rivets! Back cannons! The way his stomach resembles the cartoon model! The 'wheels in his legs!'

I sort of wanted to paint mine up into a Snaptrap. That would have kind of worked.

As it is, I liked the toy at first, then got bored with it. Pretty sure I sold it off in the last round of purges around here. Nothing specifically that I didn't like, just nothing that caught my fancy about it all that much.

That actually sounds like a pretty workable idea. Might I suggest DOTM Vortex as Vortex?

Though I can't say how worthwhile it would be to try to customize an exclusive Japanese toy. Could be cool though. No idea about Swindle.

Swindle? That's an easy one. Do what Alternators did and use Hound.

Also. Man, I would like to have that Vortex toy. Never got Tomahawk, and that repaint/remold looks niiiiiice.
