price hike at Target

Post by Dominic »

Target has Deluxes at nearly $15.

(Anderson, if you get to the CAn forum before I do, please let them know. Thanks.)

I'll post it there this evening if you haven't. $15? Yikes. That's going to dampen my enthusiasm for collecting rather quickly.

I saw that Transformers sales had fallen in the last quarter. I'm sure Hasbro is counting on making some of that lost revenue up with strong movie sales and the upped pricing. And that's fine. I hope they do well and make a good profit, but I really won't be participating.

It's kind of a government mindset: when high prices start losing money because less people are willing to pay them, raise the prices on the ones that are left to make up the loss. Which of course will drive even more customers away... and the cycle continues. I don't doubt that the high profile of the movie will reverse this trend to some extent, but in the long run I wonder how well $15 deluxes will actually sell once the movie hype dies down?

The thing is, the Deluxe figures are the best-selling in the line...in all likelihood *because* they are only $10. When I found Ratchet and Hot Shot, I had to seriously umm and ahh about buying both at once before deciding I had to, or I'd never see them again locally.

People spend so much time worrying about whether a figure is "mint" or not that they never stop to consider other flavours.

On the other hand, if the price hike indicates that there might be an upswing in this lately damnable Quality Control, I'd say I'm all for it.

I know I'm late on this one, but that is some ridiculously wishful thinking. If anything, it seems like the QC has gone down to scrimp out a few more pennies from the brand.

I wonder if my local Targets are holding off on the price increase until the movie line is on the shelf? Universe has mostly been clearanced out, and TFA figures are still $11.99 locally. Dom, maybe your area is an aberation when it comes to the higher prices?

My Targets have TFA deluxes at 12.88, and have put the larger-sized toys on clearance.

This, of course, means I don't have extra cash right now. Had to go and buy a computer instead, didn't I?

Down to $12.88 here. That is still KB level expensive though.
