matt smith,
this is a true who in the naming.
a real unknown in the acting world takes the place of the most wanted spot in English tv.
This role is much like being named as a Captain in a Star Trek series.
he will take over the roll some time next year.
The current doctor is David Tennant, who is set to leave at the end of the year.
It is also unknown how this will effect the Torchwood series

Odd-looking fellow, and someone I've never heard of before. But then that's generally true of British actors before they take the role.
He seems very young for the part, but perhaps he'll do well. Time will tell. I'm glad to see the RTD era coming to an end, and while Tennant's done a good job, I'm ready for something new.

tennant being a fan of the series knows when to step away at the correct time.
even he said it is time for a new person to step in.

I honestly don't know if I can take another Doctor, I really liked Eccleston and his short tenure left me a little shaky for new guys. Granted, Tennant has worked out well, but it's not been all that long. The Doctor only has what, 1 regeneration left after this? Oh well, hopefully Matt Smith works out, he has the unusual looks like Eccleston and the youth like Tennant.

See, that one's a camcorder, that one's a camera, that one's a phone, and they're doing "Speak no evil, See no evil, Hear no evil", get it?

This is the eleventh Doctor, and he actually has two regenerations left. The Doctor can regenerate 12 times, and presuming that the original arrived via the normal biological method, and that the first regeneration produced the second Doctor, the 12th will produce the 13th and last Doctor.
Storywise, is there a way around that? Sure. The TIme Lords offered the Master a new regeneration cycle, so it can be done. However, I imagine there was meant to a be a strong legal or physical reason why the Time Lords stopped at 12. Circumventing that could provide some good drama or an interesting story at some point.

I thought the 13th regeneration was the "fatal regeneration" or something.andersonh1 wrote:This is the eleventh Doctor, and he actually has two regenerations left. I don't remember anything like that. I think the first time anything on screen established that there was a limit was in the Deadly Assassin, when it was established that the Master had used up his regenerations. He had hung on so long that he was nothing but an emaciated corpse-looking thing. Nothing was said about another attempt at regeneration being fatal, just that he was unable to do so again.JediTricks wrote:I thought the 13th regeneration was the "fatal regeneration" or something.
The actual 12-regeneration limit was established in Mawdryn Undead, if I recall. I don't think it was mentioned earlier, but I could be wrong.

that is some what true,
this doctor said that he is special in some way.
with this he may have some hidden ability to be around longer.
there is also two other doctors around.
1> a clone daughter from the last series
2> a reborn tennant with only one heart from the last episode for the past season.

IMO, if they go back to the human-offshoot Doctor, it's too much of a cheat. They left him with Rose Tyler in the alternate universe that they keep saying they can't come back to and then come back to. As for his clone daughter, yeah, that's true, but seems like going that route would also be a cheat. I know they'd have to cheat no matter what, but they might as technobabble it rather than recycle those.Doctor Who wrote:that is some what true,

They could always reboot Doctor Who.
