Transformers: Legacy

The modern comics universe has had such a different take on G1, one that's significantly represented by the Generations toys, so they share a forum. A modern take on a Real Cybertronian Hero. Currently starring Generations toys, IDW "The Transformers" comics, MTMTE, TF vs GI Joe, and Windblade. Oh wait, and now Skybound, wheee!

I am guessing that this line is meant as a place-holder before the next movie line.

Based on the list above, m ost of this looks like stuff held over from "War for Cybertron". And, Studio Series is likely going go consistently use G1 movie figures at this point.

Perhaps, although given the tepid response to Bumblebee products, I do wonder if they're not going to make it the all-in situation it was with the Bayverse movies.

I wouldn't expect that, there's only so many more characters they can mine from the '86 movie convincingly. Then again, they do have 3 more Dinobots to get out and they're not in a rush. My guess is they'll either keep mixing '86 characters with Bayverse characters until Rise of the Beasts comes out, then use Studio Series line to sell that film instead of giving it its own imprint. This would make retailers less worried, as they already have space allocated on their planograms for the line.

I doubt it. "Generations" and Bayverse lines have been separate entities for years now. There are established and separate fan bases for both and I seriously doubt that Hasbro is going to axe one in favor of the other anytime soon. As for SS, it's definitely going to continue to be a Bayverse driven line, with the 86 characters filling in until all of them are made. Then it'll be back to 100% Bayverse.

The movies are media support. That will be enough to convince retailers.

The G1 characters in studio series are inflating the line's sales. Stores do not care if you spent $30 on G1 Scourge or a movie Constructicon. But, they know that you spent $30 on "Studio Series". That is why "Bumblebee" figures were being sold in "Studio Series", in the same cases as the G1 characters.

The funny thing is that when Bayverse went to Studio Series, they actually merged into Generations because Studio Series is a subseries of Generations.

Legacy was officially revealed today via Pulsecon.

Characters from different universes will be set in a "fresh new" Generations line. The gimmick for the line will be Energon weapons and armor. Weapons can combine to form new weapons. The first wave will include:

Deluxe
Skids
Dragtrip (apparently will be able to combine with other Stunticons to form Menasor)
Prime Arcee
Kickback

Voyager
Bulkhead (having a new, more G1 type design)

Leader
Laser Prime

So the premise is taking all these other universes... and making them like G1. The Youtube live chat was NOT pleased. Bulkhead proves why, the aesthetic doesn't translate well to the character, it's just a box with limbs and a head. TF:Prime Arcee has a really dumb transformation with the wheels split to the outsides of the legs, very much dumped and disappointing. At the same time, they're doing a new Menasor and starting with Dragstrip who looks pretty good, it's hard to argue with that. Kickback looks amazing too. But the "energon infused weapons" isn't a strong gimmick for my tastes.

There might be some mix-match potential. But, I am not in love with the energy weapons.

That looks like the best Dragstrip that Hasbro has ever made. I admit to being tempted.

Legacy packaging looks like it'll be open box a la Buzzworthy Bumblebee, and looks like it's OD'd on rave drugs

The open packaging just....bothers me. This is probably generational, but it bothers me.

Was Blaster released in "Kingdom"? I would be tempted by that if Eject were molded in normal plastic, rather than translucent (and I thought that I could get the other tapes).

The only one that I am really considering is Dragstrip, if it looks like Hasbro is going to make the rest of the Stunticons.
