Sounds reminiscent of the backstory to Beast Wars with the end of the Great War. The Autobots and Decepticons being phased out, a trio (Magnaboss) taking over at the leaders of Cybertron... Be interesting to see how this factors into Combiner Wars. The series will consist of 8 episodes and will debut in July.
Series Summary (Possible Spoilers):
Taking place 40 years after the great war on Earth, Transformers: Combiner Wars introduces new lore and all-new characters that, combined with the characters fans have known for decades, will bring the Transformers storytelling in a new direction.
The Autobots and Decepticons have disbanded and returned to Cybertron. With the days of Optimus Prime and Megatron over, Cybertron is now ruled by a triumvirate. However, an ancient technology has enabled a new threat, the power for multiple Transformers to combine into one massive, dangerous form: Combiners. Who will stand-up to this threat to ensure that the fragile peace that was 4 million years in the making remains?
During the conference it was also stated that the series is geared towards the adults.
Transformers: Combiner Wars is brought to us by famous writers/showrunners Eric Calderon, George Krstic and F. J. Desanto.

Combiner Wars cartoon
Not really sure where to put this since it's Combiner Wars, yet also sounds like it takes place in the G1 continuity. At any rate... Hasbro and Machinima are currently in France promoting upcoming shows at the MIPTV Conference 2016. From TFW2005, we have some details about the Combiner Wars cartoon...

Re: Combiner Wars cartoon
To me, it sounds like a mishmash of ideas from the IDW Transfomers/RID book (not the cartoon). In any case, they should have hustled this out sooner, but I look forward to seeing what they came up with. I guess this won't be in canon.

See, that one's a camcorder, that one's a camera, that one's a phone, and they're doing "Speak no evil, See no evil, Hear no evil", get it?

How so? In the IDW comics, the Autobots and Decepticons haven't disbanded, they remain major powers on Cybertron. Starscream is the elected leader of the Cybertronian government, not a triumvirate. Optimus and Megatron are both still around and play a large role in events. And the war has only been over for a little over a year and a half according to MTMTE.JediTricks wrote:To me, it sounds like a mishmash of ideas from the IDW Transfomers/RID book (not the cartoon).
