November Hauls!

Post by 138 Scourge »

Sweet, I havent gotten to start one of these in a while.
Thanks to a screw up at Target, we got basically a free 38 dollar gift card. So i took that and picked up:

Marvel Universe Death's Head. Eleven bucks for a toy the size of a GI Joe is ridiculous, but man, this thing looks cool. And since I've wanted a toy of this guy forever, it was hard to resist. I like that he's got all his main weapons, especially since these toys usually seem to cheap out on the accessories.

Target Grimlock and Prime 2-pack: The Grimlock mold here is still just OK, but the new paint job really elevates it. The robot mode especially benefits from the brighter colors and chrome. The Prime is a mold i liked but sold off before just to have less stuff. I still like it, don't care as much for the truck's new colors, but the robot mode kind of reminds me of the Apex armor/ Godbomber or whatever on Powermaster Prime. So I'm all for it.

All told I think I spent like three bucks on all this, so you know. That's okay.

I also went to Target today and picked up Roadbuster and Skids.

Also, last week: A regirlfriend. As of now I officially have never dated any woman less than twice.

Ugghhh. I NEED this, damn it. The Walmart I work in doesn't even carry the MU line anymore (or whatever it's called now). Super pissed.

I got:

-Reprolabels order of 4 Autobot rubsigns. Testing the waters a little bit before I really make a larger order, but primarily I just wanted a rubsign to put on my Roadbuster's chest. He looks great with it, and the rubsigns are super high quality, nice and thick. I didn't know I had to cut them out of a sheet myself, so that was a little harrowing and I did mess up a little bit, but y'know, whatever. The backing on it wasn't nearly as sticky as I was expecting, which was actually good because then I was able to move the rubsign around a little to get it into the perfect position. Once it sat for a few minutes it got real solid, now casually moving it doesn't even budge it. Still trying to think of some dudes who need them, might replace my G1 Cosmos and Jetfire's with these if I can't find any better ideas, but altogether, absolutely worth it. Putting it on Roadbuster really tied him together and made him look like the G1 toy.

People spend so much time worrying about whether a figure is "mint" or not that they never stop to consider other flavours.

Acquired a big haul of 27 Wally West Flash issues at a comic show for $1 each. Most of them are from Mark Waid's time on the book, but I got a few Messner-Loebs issues as well.

I may have to give this a shot. So far the only sticker I've put on Roadbuster is the Autobot logo which doesn't actually fit where it's supposed to go and I still have some reprolabel rubsigns and logos of every backing. I'm slowly warming up to RB, I've loosened the arms a bit and continue to fiddle with the legs so my review will probably be a little less scathing later.

Didn't some other company recently get the rights from Hasbro to officially make reproduction and upgrade sticker sets for TFs? They're on BBTS, I know, and have sheets of faction symbols, though I don't know that they have rubsigns as well.

ReproLabels always seemed rather sketch to me, given that they're selling stickers of official TF logos without so much as a license. Plus I just really hate what they do and try and push with their 'upgrade' sets.

I've seen those too and I might wind up getting them (if for no other reason than I'm a sucker for TF stickers and I slap them on damned near everything). Reprolabels operates out of Canada and apparently the law works differently there. I do know that Hasbro has made them pay for it in other ways, for example, FunPub has them on a list of those who are permanently banned from Botcon. Being permanently unable to go an official annual convention to sell your product to your target demographic in person is a pretty big blow to business I would imagine.

I'll be damned, you're right. So far it looks like they mostly just do Masterpiece "upgrades" and faction logo symbols, no rubsigns, which was primarily what I wanted right now anyway.

I can see why you'd think they were "sketchy," but they've been around for over a decade now, they're super old-school with that, and before all this "upgrade set" ridiculousness (I looked at their Roadbuster set and it's ridiculous how much of the figure was covered in faux gold stickers--no thanks) they primarily were doing a service that Hasbro will definitely never do--provide you new, fresh stickers for your G1 toys. I mean, I have quite a few beat-up looking G1ers, like my Onslaught and Ratchet, and if they had some new stickers, they'd look a lot more spiffy and new.

They've been around for years, and their stuff is quality. The fact that Hasbro hasn't sent them a C&D half a decade ago--especially since, according to my envelope, they're based right in Buffalo NY--is almost an implicit, "Hey, you guys are cool," license.

I haven't heard of any of this. Hm.

I guess it's Marvel Infinite now. Hm. The new packaging is nice, even if the name's sort of dumb. Anyway, I havent seen these at any Wal-Marts, mainly Target or TRU. I can keep an eye out, pick up one for you if I spot another.

I bought Generations Nightbeat. I know, he's another kind of half-assed homage Nightbeat toy, but fuck it. I had some leftover vending machine change from work that came out to about $9 so I only paid like $6. Haven't opened him yet, but the alternate shoulder transformation (as seen on Goshooter) and the fact that I don't own either previous uses of this mould made it worth checking out. I also don't own any other half-assed homage Nightbeat toys, so!
