TF altmodes you've always wanted to see

Ancillary, non-main-line stuff. Star Wars TF, Speed Stars, Titanium Series, Robot Heroes, that sort of thing. They're kinda neat, but we all know they're not really that important. Admit it, you know it's true.

TF altmodes you've always wanted to see

Post by Almighty Unicron »

Every so often I get an idea for a bitchin' transformer altmode and wish I was a designer at Hasbro to make it happen- surely you guys have had the same inclination? Here are a few ideas I've come up with in my idle fantasies
  • A "wizard van"- you know, those cool airbrushed vans you occasionally see with tacky but awesome fantasy art painted on the side? I've always wanted a transformer like this, and the best news is that Hasbro could always just make this a repaint of any other TF that turns into a van like Ironhide. Of course in my head, there's only one transformer who could possibly turn into a wizard van... Beachcomber.
  • I've talked about it before, but I've always wanted a transformer who turned into the popemobile. My idea was for an Alpha Trion toy, with the glass panes of the popemobile turning into his cape.
  • I've also always wanted a TF that turned into a hearse. Obviously it has to be a decepticon but the character could be any suitably evil/grim dude. Since hearses used to double as ambulances, maybe a decepticon medic could turn into one as a dark counterpart to Ratchet? Of course one of the few decepticons to constantly be a motor vehicle is "Dead End", and while he's normally a sports car I like the name for a guy who turns into a hearse.

A bus. School bus, city bus, double-decker British bus, I don't care, I just want a bus.

People spend so much time worrying about whether a figure is "mint" or not that they never stop to consider other flavours.

Lots.

Star Trek Transformers. All the various Enterprises, Klingons, Romulans, Borg (yeah I know, they're boxes and spheres, so what, still want 'em), Shuttlecrafts, phasers, tricorders, communicators, etc... the possibilties are really endless here.

Computers. I still say this is a largely untapped market. Sure, maybe playing with a flash drive isn't "actiony" but it would at least have the merit of being something new and different. Same with laptops, and even desktop computers.

A line of classic "Muscle cars". Or even "Transformers throughout history" showing Transformers turning into various technological devices from eras long past. Like an old telegraph machine or a Model T, a 1957 Chevy, an old WWII era bomber, a rotary dial telephone... again the possibilities are endless.

And of course a hearse and a Popemobile.

I never really liked much of the visual design of Star Trek. I also think the Star Wars line was pretty abortive in its execution- I'm just not a fan of getting my Transformers chocolate in my other sci-fi franchise's peanut butter, so to speak.

Didn't they make a few transformers who turned into mice, a USB hub and a working MP3 player a while back?

We get a lot of transformers with retro alt modes, look no further than 'bee in the first movie or many modern incarnations of Cliffjumper. And there was that Hearts of Steel comic that had steampunk transformers who turned into 19th century trains, biplanes and steam powered ships.

SWTF was hit and miss, mostly miss. It was pretty good at the start but degenerated into being rehashes of the same three prequel vehicles and that's where it lost me. Especially when there are still plenty of original trilogy stuff to do (TIE Interceptor).

I just think an Enterprise D that separates, has two bots, one made from the stardrive and the other from the saucer that could merge into a larger robot would be freakin' awesome.

The Musiclabel and Devicelabel stuff I would classify more as those devices made into Transformers, rather than the other way around. Example: Musiclabel Soundwave did turn into an mp3 player, but it was more like have a new version of Soundwave with a player in it rather than him turning into an iPod or something like that. Same for the flash drives and laser mice.

Yeah, moviebee was an old camaro, but even that was shortlived and that's only one. I think there are a lot of beautifully made old muscle cars that could be made into Transformers if given the chance. Yes, we got Hearts of Steel, but that was in comic form, not toys (unless you just meant in any medium, not just toys, now that I think about it, I hadn't really considered that part of the question, just assumed you meant toys). Third parties have started producing the HOS figures, but it would be nice to see them from Hasbro official.

I guess I just think that there are a lot of car models that could be done from the early days of the 50's, 60's and even early 70's that could be translated well into Transformers. The 80's sucked when it came to affordable cars which probably explains why the '84 Autobot cast is mostly ferraris and Porches, they were the only cars back then that had any distinctive looks to them.

I've never been a "car" guy, either when it comes to the actual motor vehicles or just liking them as a hobbyist, though I do acknowlege that there's a large contingency of people in the transformers fandom who like them. In a given line I rarely buy more than one toy that turns into a car (generally I limit myself to 1 "car", be it a 2 door, convertible or sedan, 1 jeep/SUV/van and 1 truck, usually Optimus) and never really differentiate between models of car unless they're something specialized like a search and rescue vehicle.

Yeah I'm not really a "car guy" either. I know how to operate one and beyond that I know dick. I just think that in terms of alt modes it could make for an interesting line.

Y'know, now that I think about it, they could do more in the range of aquatic Transformers as well. That's another largely untapped area.

I've always had an idea for a triplechanger/transmetal that transforms from a helicopter to a squid to a robot.

TF Prime turned a spider into a helicopter so why not a squid?

I'd be down with a Wizard van provided the robot mode had a pointy hat, or at least a bitchin' beard.

I've wanted a Garbage truck for awhile. I mean, Animated Wreck-Gar made it happen, but I was thinking of the type that has a bigass crane arm to pick up big heavy trash. Those are rad.

Other than that, beat idea I got offhand is a '58 Plymouth Fury that turns into a badass female Decepticon just to have a toy of Stephen King's Christine. Maybe with a Targetmaster with a gun mode and St. Bernard mode while I'm dreaming.
