SDCC exclusives

I swear, I wanted to be out of toys this year. But, I am seriously tempted by some of these.

The large vehicles are hard to justify, given their price and their functional lack of "articulation" (they cannot transform). But, the Snake-Eyes, Baroness and Bludgeon are amazing.

Why? Vinyl Scratch (I insist that that's a better name and PON-3 is just her stage name) was already included in a TRU set like a year ago, which I didn't buy then, this one is just...sparklier? With a light-up base? Neat, I guess, but Hasbro already gave me a Trixie, and a Twilight with a cute lil' scooter, helmet, and book. They've done right by me.

Anyway, yeah, that TF/Joe set looks amazing, and I may need to look into acquiring it somehow. Is that Ravage actually posable? That would be the tipping point for me, though the Joe-scale Bludgeon is friggin' brilliant. They should put out more Pretender shells remade in the GI Joe style, this is miles ahead of BotCon Metalhawk's goofy human head.

Being an SDCC set means it might actually be decently plausible to acquire too! Bonus!

I'm kinda surprised you're not frothing up a storm about Hasbro including a character like Luke Cage in an exclusive set.

I like the look of Bludgeon but isn't there someone here who always gets their nickers twisted when he has swords?

Anyway, with my budget being what it is I'm not likely to get any of these and I'm kind of lackluster to them anyway. Ravage looks cool but obviously doesn't transform and to me a Transformer that doesn't transform is a moot point. Does look pretty poseable though. Wonder how big that Blaster and Tapes set is?

Gomess, and occasionally me, but I think we're being half-facetious when we do that anyway. Besides, in this medium, it'd be pretty easy to chuck the swords and give Bludgeon a gun from some other Joe figure, if I wanted to.

Hound is the only one I'm kinda iffy on, being that painting a military vehicle up like a military jeep doesn't exactly make it look distinctive or interesting. Jetfire looks snazzy as all hell though. I don't really have any misgivings about vehicle-mode Action Masters (Drive Masters?), so I'm fine with these, I think they're neat. Blaster'll be worth it just to have a Joe-scale boombox accessory.

Interesting stuff, that Baroness with Ravage is probably the secondmost eyepopping element of the set to me (Jetfire as a Sky Striker is #1).

There are no actual TF exclusives yet, I wonder if they're holding back news of that, or if they really aren't bringing anything because it's so close to Botcon. My guess is the former.

JT, am I wrong in thinking that there is going to be an exclusive SDCC Metroplex?

I cannot bring myself to be excited about Jetfire or Prowl (as much as I like both of them in concept). Between the price of (and the space needed for) the whole set, I would have a hard time justifying they whole set even if I were not trying to save money.

Bludgeon and Baroness though..... If those were not likely to appreciate the most, I would be all over them on the secondary market.

Hasbro did make a Luke Cage ~4 years ago. And, while they could stand to make a newer Cage figure (that looks like he does in the comics now), the old figure was legitimately good (and looked like it should have for '09 or so).

Another thing to consider is that there are still plenty of unmade Marvel figures, so I can see not going back and making another Cage. (Hasbro needs to work on making complete teams. The only complete team I can think of is the Fantastic Four, and that still requires somebody to jump through some hoops in order to complete.)

That is also more or less why I am not made about Moonstone. Hasbro has never (as far as I recall) made a Karla Sophen figure. And, I know they never made one in that scale using her default costume. With Marvel, and the sheer number of possible characters, we kind of have to take what Hasbro releases when it does. (Or, when they do a really piss-poor job, as they did with "Marvel Legends" Hyperion, we can leave it on the shelves and take nothing.)

I think Bludgeon is made out of some cancelled parts from some concept case figures. Last year there was a load of weird ninja dudes (including a guy with a skull for a head) that will likely never see release.

If someone is looking at getting a set, and wants to offset the cost, I could be convinced to buy a Baroness off you. (Most of the parts are reused, but the head is definitely new, and some of the parts may have never been released in black. She looks like the best Baroness ever made.) The vehicles take up too much space and the rest of the set is kind of "meh"-worthy.

This seems to be a minor theme of this set. The Snake Eyes is apparently based on a Snake Eyes deco that was planned, but canceled, while the Baroness/Ravage pairing is based on a planned statue (based on one of the Devil's Due crossovers, apparently) that was also canceled. Kind of a nifty unifying theme, honestly.

Man, I don't even *care* about the Baroness and I think that figure looks great. Sadly, the closer look I get at Ravage, the more statue-esque it appears he's going to be. Anyway, word on the street is that this set's going to be a hundred bucks, which isn't bad at all. I might camp HTS to see if I can get one.

From my buying these items point of view? ----->They are all epic disappointment. NO THANKS,I don't need to buy any stautes or models that have almost no moving parts. I'm a TF toy buying fan,I need my TF toys to transform from a alt to into a robot mode & have todays modern poseable articulated joints.

I will CONCEDE that they hit a home run with that Bludgeon figure. If this toy is a standard G.I Joe sized 3 inches Plus articulated figure then wow this thing is the coolest thing ever. What makes this thing so epic cool is that this is the very first time a Transformers robot character/toy was homaged as a G.I Joe 3+inches poseable action figure. Hopefully this opens up more doors for more TF robots to get the G.I Joe 3+inches action figure treatment. -----> No,I'm still not going to be buying this,As I've never ever collected any other toy besides transformers & a handful of other robot based toys.

From my experiences with the JOES & TF fans,It's a similar relationship to how the Yankees & Mets feel about each other. With the Joes/Mets being more jealous/hating than the TF/Yankees fans due to one francise doing better than the other in sales & world wide demand. I know in my heart the hard core 1960 thru late 1970's G.I Joe fans-Think these SDCC TF VS G.I Joe convention items are the worst things ever & they loate them. While 50/50 joes fans from the 1980's RAH Joes fans hate/like this idea. those who hate this idea,hate it because their jealous that the TF line brings in more profits,gets more newer toy lines,more newer cartoons & gets more of hasbro attention. the under 50% of RAH Joes fans that like these cross-overs SDCC items grew up buying & liking both francises in the 1980's.

Personally I Feel Hasbro should help out the failing G.I Joe francise by doing a G.I Joe VS Transformers cartoon series on the hub accompanied by a toy line. Have 5 Autobot & 5 Joes against 5 decepticons with 5 cobras bad guys. have the transformers alt modes transform into iconic G.I Joes/Cobra's vehicles.
