For every valid point they bring up, they go off on pointless tangents involving deliberately misunderstood plot-points, the actors, pointless jokes about the title and just about everything else.
Seriously, this makes the movie look *good* by virtue of it not being anywhere near as bad as the review paints it to be.

That is not even the worst example I have seen.
I was using an ATt4W review (not by Linkara) earlier. I had to turn it off because it was just that bad. In all seriousness, the host is either retarded or doing a *really* good job of playing one. (It was 20-odd minutes of him flipping through an old Marvel Handbook, mocking random things and completely missing the point of publishing a handbook. He was going page by page.....and making the same joke over and over and over and over and over........)
Dom
-will credit "Dark of the Moon" for being the best of the 3 Bayformer movies, for what it is worth.

Oh man, that opening with them just looking unhappy and sighing before breaking into the pomposity of overblown garbage that was DOTM.
Totally right about the first hour not doing ANYTHING but setup, and Malkovich disappearing as a character, and no character arc for Sentinel Prime.
I love this premise, explaining half of the movie to the other guy, and then vice-versa, because this movie is so damned incompetent that stuff comes out of nowhere and disappears constantly. Imagine not being a fan and trying to make this shit out. I remember in '07 having to explain the original movie to a non-fan, this would be 10 times worse. What they're describing here is how it feels to watch this shit movie, just a regular guy going to the movies and having to sit through this nightmarishly incompetent film.
Anyway, I hadn't seen this movie so I hadn't watched this Half in the Bag, and it's a very interesting DISCUSSION, the review is inherent in how little credibility they lend the film that they are distracted enough to have a long discussion about this film's impact on its audience, and how it is a good example of modern failings of big movies (especially those of Michael Bay) on audiences.

See, that one's a camcorder, that one's a camera, that one's a phone, and they're doing "Speak no evil, See no evil, Hear no evil", get it?

I dipped my toe in the TGWTG pool once, and never really went back. I remember Linkara, and found his faux intellectualism and constant abuse of the word "subsequently" massively grating.Dominic wrote:I was using an ATt4W review (not by Linkara) earlier. Though if you're talking about Phelous... then yes, you got trolled. That's his whole schtick, as I recall.

Re: least helpful review ever
His gimmick is....oh my god.
The problem with Phelous is that while in character, there does not seem to be any awareness of how annoying the gimmick actually is. it stops being funny after about 5 minutes (and the "funny time" ain't much to get excited over when it is still "funny").
A typical Linkara review has standard ingredients that are included, regardless of how relevent they are to the comic being reviewed:
-wacky non-sequitors.
-complaints about character death or violence in a story (even when inherent to the plot).
-complaints about characters not being likable.
-intentionally misreading/misrepresenting various parts of the story for the sake of complaining about the alleged problem.....even when the problem is not actually there.
I admit to getting the odd chuckle from Linkara. But, his reviews are.....not at all helpful in terms of actually describing the comics in question. (I actually thought that his review of "Countdown" was unfair. There was much to criticize about "Countdown" as a whole. But, he missed most of the real problems in favour of making his standard complaints.)

Re: least helpful review ever
He lost me in the first video I watched, where he promptly followed "as a feminist..." with a stereotypical whiny b!tch voice for every female character in the comic.
I later heard that he now 'ties' his reviews together with a non-self-aware derivative 'storyline' that takes up more time than his actual 'crit'. Ho-hum.

Honestly, if he would just get his ass to some speech classes so he doesn't sound like he's trying to talk while pleasuring a bag of marbles, I might be able to tolerate him. As-is, I can't even bring myself to sit through his otherwise-informative Power Rangers retrospectives anymore, hilarious as his constant assertion that 'Sentai isn't relevant to Power Rangers!' is.Gomess wrote:He lost me in the first video I watched, where he promptly followed "as a feminist..." with a stereotypical whiny b!tch voice for every female character in the comic.

Re: least helpful review ever
Oh nooo, is he one of those? Like, obviously it's cool if you prefer Power Rangers or whatever, but it does baffle me when people completely throw Sentai under the bus in its favour, as if it owes nothing to it. It's like an Asylum fan denying the existence of any other film.BWprowl wrote:'Sentai isn't relevant to Power Rangers!'
...Now that I think about it, there were some of these comedy video reviewer types who entertained me, but often it was more just by virtue of what they were looking at (Godfrey Ho has always been an instant win). But they hardly ever seemed to actually *review* the thing, more just give a very condensed MST3K episode. I can definitely remember not appreciating the Nostalgia Critic at all, barely making it through one episode. JonTron, on the other hand, pushes many of my buttons- he actually uses media theory, and has a natural sense of comedy- but last I checked he seemed to have given it all up to focus on his marriage.

least helpful review ever?
1- Those You-Tube TF toy reviews that start off & end with that super loud music in the back ground, often the guy also has an ad at the start that viewers have to click on the X to stop it.
