Masterpiece Thundercracker thoughts

The originals... ok, not exactly, but the original named "The TransFormers" anyway. Take THAT, Diaclone!

Masterpiece Thundercracker thoughts

Post by JediTricks »

Got this figure yesterday, nice little item to find on my birthday. $70 feels a bit steep here only because of how plasticky the figure looks and how mediocre the instructions are, but hell, he's been standing up on my table for a whole day now without trouble so that's worth anything for a Masterpiece seeker. :D

The instructions are dead-ass wrong after step 5 because they simply reused the Starscream v.1 instructions even though this is the MP-11 Coronation Starscream significant remold. I was able to fiddle my way into vehicle mode, but getting out was REALLY difficult because of some new tabs for the wings. I got it done though and this morning found these MP-11 instructions and saved them to HD: http://cavecollection.blogspot.com/2012 ... piece.html

Differences from MP-11:
- holographic pilot minifigure is chrome here instead of clear blue
- Thundercracker deco (obviously)
- no coronation gear
- other stuff maybe, I don't have that figure so I'm going by images.

Thundercracker's look is very G1 down to recreating the look of the foil sticker images on the intake cowlings top, and then the team added pilot tailfin and fuselage art in the form of a "Sonicboom" image of TC carrying a Soundwave boombox on the tail and "Say Cheese" image of Reflector's alt mode on the side of the fuselage just aft of the intakes - I will say that the Reflector one feels like it'd be more appropriate if it were only on 1 side though.

Having an MP Seeker that stands on his own feet for a good amount of time is a nice change of pace, like at the edge of my table all night without worry, rock solid, it's night and day around here folks.

His stand says "THUNDER CRACKER" which sucks, and in flight mode the stand no longer works for some reason - I think perhaps a weight shift in the figure design.

He's got the Megatron gun clip that SS came with, and it still pegs into the underside of the stand. TC also has a hologram pilot minifigure as mentioned, and the twin missile pieces decoed in blue and white.

I'll have more later.

See, that one's a camcorder, that one's a camera, that one's a phone, and they're doing "Speak no evil, See no evil, Hear no evil", get it?

If only I had $70!

People spend so much time worrying about whether a figure is "mint" or not that they never stop to consider other flavours.

Been thinking of getting this figure since I have Starscream and Skywarp. Be nice to complete the set of Seekers. Plus I like the changes to the mold. It's what Starscream should have been in the first place.

Definitely is an improvement in functionality to the original MP Starscream mold, although I think there's some loss of fine detail with this remold and a perfect world would have still a 3rd option. That said, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it, and I wouldn't suggest you hesitate to pick it up if you have the opportunity - you guys know how TRU MP exclusives get scarce real quick.

I'm gonna post some pics in the news hopefully today (you know, after I photograph them and all :p) to compare MP SS v1 to MP TC.
