Comics are awesome.

Sorry to hear that. Hope they can find other jobs.
If you need me to pick books up for you, send me a message and we can work something out. I have a pull-list, so my discount will at least partly off-set the shipping costs.

Re: Comics are awesome.
I appreciate the offer Dom, but luckily I know of another comic book store about 20 minutes away. Guess I'll have to start going there now... And it sounds like several comic book stores around town are working with Diamond Distribution to make sure Atomic Comics customers will still get their comics. I'm really shocked at how suddenly Atomic Comics closed. There was absolutely no sign they were in trouble at the location I went to. An article about it on Newsarama mentions the owner is also loosing his house. Hard to believe that's how bad things have gotten for them.

Managed to flip through "Ultimate Fallout" #6 yeasterday, but ain't read it yet.
I happy to report there is no incestuous luvin' in this issue. Expect a more thorough review after I read it.
Dom
-would prefer to just assume no incest, but apparently that is not possible.

Action Comics #904
This issue ties up the "Reign of the Doomsdays" arc, which hasn't really been anything remarkable, just a pretty standard Superman storyline featuring one of his major villains. He's assisted by all the Superman "family", Supergirl, Steel, Superboy, etc. What makes this issue somewhat poignant is that it's the last issue before DC resets the numbering on the series, which is a real shame as far as I'm concerned. Even though Detective Comics has been in publication longer, no other comic has been running for 72 years and accumulated over 900 issues. I hate to see DC throw that out. The last scene, where Clark and Lois sit down to a quiet dinner and discuss life can almost be read as a coda to the version of Superman we've had since the Byrne reboot of 1986.

Re: Comics are awesome.
It'll take some getting used to going to a new comic book store... But anyway, comics from last week:
Green Lantern Corps #63
Last issue before the renumbering. This is told in 4 "chapters". Basically this is another issue showing how many of the Green Lanterns are traumatized by Krona's recent attack. Some aren't sure they will stay with the Corps, others are looking for a fight, some we're shown blame the human Green Lanterns as they pick a fight with Kyle. In the final chapter, an emergency forces the Corps to come together in the common interest of saving lives, although it's clear they're only putting things off for now and that they still have issues to sort out.
Superman/Batman #87
I believe this is the final issue as it isn't one of the 52 relaunch titles. This wraps up the storyline where a reporter had been murdered to prevent Batman's identity from being revealed. Turns out the murderer was the Joker who was tipped off by the paper's editor for a payoff (and thought he was telling a mob boss). Anyway, in this issue, Joker is after Clark as the new reporter on the story. Kinda fun to see him trying to deal with the Joker while protecting on his own secret identity. This was an interesting little story arc. Although they make the ending a bit easy with Bruce and Clark finding a way to kill the story.

Re: Comics are awesome.
Steel is back already? Wasn't the major thing about this arc the fact that Doomsday showed up and offed Steel? I remember a lot of people were pissed about that.andersonh1 wrote:Action Comics #904

Anyway, they'll likely go back to legacy numbering sooner rather than later. Possibly as soon as Moorison's run is over.
I'm headed to the comic shop tomorrow to do two things: Pick up the first issue of the new TMNT comic, and to set up a pull list. I'm just going to put Mega Man and TMNT on it for right now, but that might change.

Ultimate Fallout #6:
More wrap up. May Parker and Gwen Stacy are bundled off for a relatively happy ending. MJ sticks around. I have no idea what, if any, plans Bendis has for her. Apparently, Captain America bailed. But, that is probably not going to stick, given that the last page is an add for other "Ultimates" books, including an "Avengers" title with Captain America in it. (On a related note, Captain America, Ironman and Thor all bear more than passing resemblances to their movie analogues.) Johnny Storm and co set up in the Morlock tunnels, which sets them up for "Ultimate X-Men".
All things considered, this series is not worth picking up unless somebody is looking for a proper ending to the first "Ultimate Spiderman" series or wants to get the first appearance of the new Spiderman. But, for the most part, this has been a 6-issue "zero issue", ranging in quality from high end of good to dubious at best.
Grade: C

Re: Comics are awesome.
I got my Mega Man comics in the mail!
Hooray!
All except #3, which I was told was back-ordered, and I suspect 'back-ordered" is code for "Out of stock forever."
Unsurprisingly, I really liked them. I got issues #1,2, and 4, and I have no idea who the two robot masters at the end of issue 4 are. Are they from a Game Boy game or something?

There were no original Super Robots in the Game Boy games. There were some made up for these comics, as I recall ("Artillery Man" or something?), if they're the comics I'm thinking of.Ursus mellifera wrote:I have no idea who the two robot masters at the end of issue 4 are. Re: Comics are awesome.
Wrong and wrong again! Mega Man V on the Game Boy consisted 'entirely' of new Robot Masters, all strangely named after planets rather than anything else. Neptune, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Pluto, Uranus, Jupiter, Saturn and Terra. There were also an assortment of original end boss characters like Quint.Gomess wrote:There were no original Super Robots in the Game Boy games. But these guys are actually Oil Man and Time Man from the Mega Man Powered Up (called Rockman Rockman in Japan) PSP remake, which added them to make the original game's six robot masters match the number of all subsequent games, eight. The fact that they're being used at all in this comic is awesome because for once they're actually being acknowledged.
