Re: Transformers - ongoing series
Because it's unreasonable to expect a climactic fight scene in a book about giant robots armed with forty laser cannons and machine guns?
I mean, I know you're pretty intellectual, Dom, but if two giant robots who are on opposite sides don't occasionally hit each other really hard I start to lose reason for paying attention.

Yes, fight scenes are expected in a "Transformers" comic.
But, they do not generally provide much for consideration after the fact. And, this is the issue with "Deceptigod", all as part of IDW's big stupid event. (Seriously, "Chaos" is shaping up to be much of what I dislike about modern comics, with no small bit of 90s hype mixed in.)
"Last Stand of the Wreckers" is a good example of fight scenes used well. Most of the violence in that book served a purpose. It moved the plot along and/or illstrated the premise of the story. (And, for people who do not bother with that stuff, it still had robots doin' stuff so it was "teh awsume".) "Chaos" is just Transformers doing stuff....and who the fuck really cares?
Dom
-still liking "Last Story on Earth" though.

Re: Transformers - ongoing series
Is it that issue? When does it come out, tomorrow? I may have to pick it up at the end of the week.
When does Death of Prime hit?

Re: Transformers - ongoing series
"Death of Prime" is coming out in December.
And, yes, this week's issue features "Deceptigod" if the solicits are to be believed.
Dom
-never less tempted to go to the comic shop during the week. Might not bother until Friday.

Issue 28:
There have been complaints about the art style in the Cybertron focused portions of "Chaos" making the story hard to follow. In truth, it is less the style than the execution. Either way though, it can be difficult to tell what is happening and to who. On the other hand, it *really* does not matter. This issue is an extended fight scene. A buncha shit happens...then the Decepticons and Galvatron's army merge in to Deceptigod. It is really not clear which side Deceptigod is on.
I get the feeling that "Transformers" is coming off my "must read" list and going on to my "will read it for habit" list very soon.
Grade: C/D
If a story is going to be event focused, I would like to be able to tell what the hell is going on more easily.

Re: Transformers - ongoing series
So Cyclonus and Scourge are part of the Deceptigod? Is he given a name at any point, or is it a Bayformers-esque "giant generic robot monster" given no real name?
Re: Transformers - ongoing series
From what I read, Megatron, Galvatron, Scourge and Cyclonus are the only Decepticons/loyalists who were were not joined with Deceptigod. Characters who were joining the mass-merge spoke in binary, and none of the above characters were shown speaking binary.
Even Drift started to speak binary before spearing himself.
The monster is not named in the comic itself.
Obviously, the answers about how and why will be in issue 30. But, I doubt that it will be worth the wait.
Dom
-thinking Furman's book might not be so bad by comparison.

Re: Transformers - ongoing series
...Are they actually outright saying Galvatron's dudes are Decepticons now?
Maybe the claims that IDW is outright ignoring continuity hold some weight.

Re: Transformers - ongoing series
The same could be said about Drift. He was not a Decepticon to start with. Actually, *nobody* was. But, apparently, being a Decepticon is some deeper/mystical thing and.... But, hey, James Roberts being on the book makes it all okay, right?
Oi, this comic is shit.
Dom
