I heard that it was, at best, a Pretty Good Sixty Dollar game. It's down to $45 new though, already. I'm waiting for thirty.

It'll take a hell of a game to convince me of 3D Castlevania. I dipped my toe in that pool twice before, and I ain't gone back in since.

Things have improved. This one's overseen by Kojima of all people (Yeah, I don't get it either!) and was developed by, uhh...let's do some Wiki'ing...Mercury Steam! Whose main claim to fame is, uh...Clive Barker's Jericho.

Well okay probably not a good track record, but everyone can turn around, right? Square developed Rad Racer!

The GameTrailers review for Castlevania: LoD wasn't exactly praising its greatness.

http://www.gametrailers.com/video/revie ... rds/705390

Still, it's probably the best of the 3D Castlevanias. And as long as we're still kicking around the topic of girls being sex objects in fighting games, I may as well post this clip from Castlevania: Judgment. It's about as bad as it gets.

I did see an improvement between Legacy of Darkness and Lament of Innocence, but it was such a minor improvement that I figured I'd wait another 20 years or so before trying again. =/

And even then, Lament left out a lot of Legacy's better features. The maps in particular were incredibly repetitive, and there was no real narrative at all. If Lords of Shadow can improve on that, cool, but I'm not too fussed by what I've seen so far. The Grim 'N' Gritty hero in particular looks like a guy whose story I don't care to follow, but it's nice that they're trying to get away from the swarm of bishounen.

...Honestly, I was all ready for a massive time-bending crossover game where you can play as everyone from Simon to Soma. I got Judgement. And Lords doesn't even seem to fit into the established story. I doubt we're gonna see my dream come true. ><

As for how Maria must must must improve her bust, we've all seen worse. It's still offensive of course, and even moreso because Maria was portrayed as a carefree badass with kung fu skillz in Symphony of the Night, rather than a generic rorigoff.

Working on Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia right now. Taking a break from Viewtiful Joe. I got to one boss fight that was just pissing me off to no end and needed something different. So anyway!! Ecclesia has this reputation for being monstrously hard, and barring a few tough boss fights, I don't really see it. If you've played through a few Castlevanias, then you pretty much know what to expect. It's cool and I really like it. The last, great 2D Castlevania that Konami made. There's a bunch of villagers that you have to rescue, and at first I thought I'd be really annoyed by all their go-fetch quests, but it turns out it's actually fun. There's a few that just have me scratching my head, like where to find horse hair for a violinist. I'm hacking up a bunch of ghostly horse heads and no one's giving me horse hair! I'm in Dracula's castle right now, and happy to say that it's still a huge maze to explore despite having all the other levels set in the surrounding country. Gotta' say I do like that they place most of the game outside of the castle. Don't know why, but it just makes the whole game feel like it's got a broader scope. And I like that even though I'm in Dracula's castle, new areas keep popping up outside of the castle. There's so much to do in this game, it's a lot of fun!

I just kind of dread finishing it, because then I'll feel obligated to go back to Viewtiful Joe. Seriously!! I have that game set on the kiddy level, and it's still crazy hard! This guy, Fire Leo: sure it looks like it's easy to smoke him, but when I play it myself, I can't hardly touch the guy without getting burnt. So annoying!

Me Bro got Marvel vs Capcom 3, so I've been playing the absolute hell outta that one. Anyone else? Teams? At first I was using Sentinel/She-Hulk/Viewtiful Joe, but I've since switch over to the frightfully effective Sentinel/Dr. Doom/Trish. The keepaway games on those back two are insane,Trish can chain her regular fireball into her super fireball! Plus she has an Adrian Andrews (from Ace Attorney) color scheme, and I'll take any shout-outs to that in this game that I can get. Still miffed that Phoenix Wright didn't make it in!

OMG the Large Cavern in Ecclesia is kicking my butt. Even after watching someone on youtube do it, I still can't waste it. This thing is worse than Dracula's castle!

*EDIT*

Well, I just broke Dracula's fangs and beat the game. Awesome stuff! This is one of the best Castlevanias ever. I still can't beat the Large Cavern. It's the only thing in the game I haven't done and now it's driving me crazy. I have to do it! Just gotta figure out the right glyph load-out and equipment to use. I've seen people on youtube run through it in 3 minutes or less. Just incredible. I gotta know how!

I have two current missions: Just loaded Diablo II on the new lappity. Then loaded the hero editor. Now going through and getting my characters back to where they were before my shit got stolen. Unfortunately the save games and characters are data that was lost but not a big deal since I only have like six of them that I use anyway.

The other Mission: Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on the 64. I finally got all the game systems hooked up to my tv so now I'm trying to pick up where I've left off. I would actually like to beat this game without cheating. I have beaten it, but I used the gameshark. Not this time. Unfortunately I'm stuck on one of the two dungeons I hate the most in this game. The forrest dungeon. The other is the water dungeon. This forrest one is major pain in the ass though.

Where you stuck in the Forest Temple? I love that one, so. (The easiest key to miss is the one in the first room, the lobby. Climb the vines on the right.)

Apparently there's a really simple route through the Water Temple, it's just...not the most obvious route, so most people get stuck. I remember the big things were there was always one key I was short of, and there's one bit where you have to play the Song of Time to move a block and it's entirely nonobvious that this is what you have to do. (Mostly because this whole playing-the-Song-of-Time-to-move-blocks power was never explained and only used like three times in the entire game.)
