First Thunderworld, now Convergence offers up some classic Captain Marvel. This is going to be great: http://www.comicbookresources.com/artic ... nce-shazam
Re: Comics are Awesome III
You do know that "Convergence" is mostly a fight book, consisting of one-shots, right?
I am in for one or two of them. (I think Wein is writing a retro Earth 2 book with Grayson and the Huntress. But, even that only interests me so much as it is only a one-shot.)
In other news, IDW killed off Donatello yesterday.

I am calling it now: It will either be:Dominic wrote:In other news, IDW killed off Donatello yesterday.
1. A clone
2. A robot
3. Donetello from an alternate universe and thus not "our" Donetello.
Either way I guarantee this will be undone within a year, tops.

Re: Comics are Awesome III
There's no good reason to kill off a guy like Donnie and leave him dead. It's preposterous. It'd be like writing a Spongebob comic and killing off Squidward. Or a Powerpuff story where Bubbles is killed off. Like, sure, go for shock value in the story all you want, do the ol' fakeout death, but do you really want to see stories about these characters from here on in where they're just mourning their fallen brother/neighbor/sister? Of course you bring them back.
But I mean, I watch the new show more than read the comic (love the new show, BTW. It is the best) and that still seems to have the proper number of turtles, so i don't have a dog in the fight.

Green Lantern #40
So remembering Kilowog's comment in the last issue that the universe needed to see the Guardians stand trial to show the system works, Hal decides he needs to be the fall guy to help repair the reputation of the Green Lantern Corps. Hal let's Kilowog in on the plan, takes Krona's Gauntlet, and then they fight. Other Lanterns arrive and Hal flees. I feel Venditti is taking a page from "The Dark Knight", making Hal 'a symbol for whatever the universe needs him to be' so to speak in order to quickly repair the reputation of the Corps. Only, I don't feel that this is necessary. I mean, I feel like the Durlan storyarc already covered some of this with the Corps regaining a little of the trust after defeating them. Sure, they still have a ways to go, but I just don't see how Hal going rogue is the fix. Meanwhile, the Guardians are still discussing what their actions should be for planets turning to stone without actually doing anything... I kinda feel like this plot was going to progress more but got held back a bit while the comic takes a 2 month break for Convergence.
Green Lantern New Guardians #40
Carol attempts to get Kyle away from Oblivion while the reinforcements she brought fight him, but Oblivion only continues to get stronger. Kyle decides the only way to end this, as well as prevent himself from eventually going mad with power, is for him to die, but Carol refuses to accept those as the only two options and tells him to change the game. Inspired, Kyle links his mind with the Guardians and using their knowledge, creates 6 new White Lantern rings, each with a fragment of the Life Equations so that no one person has it, yet can still be reunited if it is ever needed. With the help of the new White Lanterns, Oblivion is taken down and having split the power 7 ways, Kyle alone is no longer a threat, and thus neither is Oblivion who crumbles to dust. Kyle tells his new Corps to protect their part of the Life Equation and to do some good for the universe, although he cannot tell them how, they'll have to figure that out for themselves. Carol realizes there were only 6 White Lanterns at the fight, to which Kyle reveals he wanted to keep one ring a secret which he intended to give to her, but she refuses, preferring to stay a Star Sapphire. Allowing the ring to go find another, the two decide to head home.
I'm really going to miss the New Guardians. It's remained my favorite of the Lantern titles during the New 52. This story has reminded me a lot of Kyle's first time as Ion. Given such power and faced with a decision of what to do with that power, ultimately in both situations Kyle's solution has been to share that power. So there are 7 White Lanterns now, which I assume is no coincidence that there are 7 colors in the rainbow. This was a great ending to the series. Happy ending for all, but unfortunately the solicitations for the Omega Men #1 says that they murder Kyle...

It all depends on how the story is told.Dominic wrote:You do know that "Convergence" is mostly a fight book, consisting of one-shots, right?
I'm interested in that one myself. All of these are two issue mini-series, so it's not a big commitment to any of them. There are about 15 of them I'd like to read, and a few others that I'm curious about.I am in for one or two of them. (I think Wein is writing a retro Earth 2 book with Grayson and the Huntress. I came across a few images from that issue today. It was pretty brutal. Never knew Bebop and Rocksteady had that in them.Dominic wrote:In other news, IDW killed off Donatello yesterday.
Re: Comics are Awesome III
Considering that it happened in IDW's "new" TMNT (essentially the turtle analogue for "More than Meets the Eye"), it makes sense for Beebop and Rocksteady to be nastier. If nothing else, they were supposed to be gang members before being mutated.
Of course, with any event, the most important thing is what comes afterwards.

Re: Comics are Awesome III
They were originally members of a street gang in the 80's cartoon as well. The thing this, they've always been portrayed as the goofy henchmen with limited success. I get the comic would make them more competent, but still, it's just weird seeing them actually kill one of the turtles.Dominic wrote:Considering that it happened in IDW's "new" TMNT (essentially the turtle analogue for "More than Meets the Eye"), it makes sense for Beebop and Rocksteady to be nastier.
