I would be fine with a quarterly kill if the comics were good and the deaths actually stuck. (Granted, this is a high bar. But, you know what I mean.)

Hey, do you have a source on that quote?

Pretty much, yeah, that's what I gather as well.

Dominic wrote:Action Comic #901 and #902:
Paul Cornell's showing on "Dark X-Men" was strong enough to warrant me occassionally picking up and flipping through other stuff he does. "Reign of the Doomsdays" made it on to my "buy" list this week. Assuming I am reading it right and that I am understanding Cornell's MO, "Reign of the Doomsdays" looks to be a stylistic riff on 90s comics. Doomsday, about as "90s" a character as one is likely to find, is made even "kewler", even being set up with a half-assed face turn when the even worse Doomsday (a cyborg Doomsday from another dimension or something) shows up. There are a few scenes with really clumsy dialogue, but those are likely intentional if I am reading this correctly. Not good enough to add to my pull list. But, if it is compiled, I might pick this arc up. Grade: B/C
I bought both just because I've never owed a comic that's numbered in the 900s before. And seeing that the series is about to go back to a number one, I might not own any more. Unless DC goes back to the old numbering system at some point.
still floored by "Ultimate Spiderman".
I do note that the black polybagged copies with the red spidey symbol are a lot like my Death of Superman black polybag with red S-symbol from 1992. Copycats? :P

Yeah, good call on the 900+ numbering.

At least most of the "Ultimate Spiderman #160" variants were the same price. I opted for the blank cover, as the stock was sturdier.

I would care more about picking up issues 900+ if I actually had the 899 issues that preceded it. THAT would be an achievement!

I'd be surprised if DC doesn't celebrate the issue #1000 milestone with those comics, if nothing else.

Gimmickry in the numbering takes away from that.

Having all 900+ issues would require great wealth and/or longevity, regardless of gimmickry.

I wouldn't say so. When Marvel reset many of their comic series, only to return to the old system as many of them reached #500 it actually seemed to add to the fanfare.

The funny thing is that DC did just that recently with Adventure Comics and Wonder Woman, either returning to the old numbering or combining all previous series to arrive at the current number of issues, which gave Wonder Woman an issue #600. It seems to me that longevity would be a selling point.
