Botcon '12 Exclusives

Ancillary, non-main-line stuff. Star Wars TF, Speed Stars, Titanium Series, Robot Heroes, that sort of thing. They're kinda neat, but we all know they're not really that important. Admit it, you know it's true.

That’s my point though. The custom class toy is already hard as balls to get, and now they’re even making it impossible for the people who *do* get into the class to get everything. This is getting dangerously close to some Mattel-level evil mastermind shit, here.

Not sure how the head (and hand)-swapping might work out, considering I would also presume the characters required differentiated paint. We’ll just have to see how these things turn out.
All-white Seeker kit. Why. The HELL. Has this not happened yet?
This would be a perfect club store or HTS exclusive.
It’d be a lousy club exclusive, because then it would be hard to get a bunch of them. Selling them on HTS might not be a bad idea though, or maybe through BBTS or something.
Spoiler
Hasbro seriously, seriously needs a legit online shop where they could sell stuff like this.
(is ANYONE here going to BotCon this year?).
Wait a minute, what about Mirage?
Does he even still post here anymore? I know he lurks more than usual, but I feel like I haven’t seen him around in a while.
(Worth noting that we actually have a surprising amount of lurkers. Check the ‘who’s online’ section at the bottom there sometime, it’s usually one or two of us registered guys and at least like eight guests. At the end of last month there was something like over fifty guys on! Some of you guys should totally register and argue with us!)

Mattel would pull that with main characters though. This is a minor variant of a character with very convention specific context.

A character with a swappable head is best done in a custom class, even though the class should have more seating.

Objectively, Sideswipe was the best figure to use that year. The mould was in service. It was a valid colour scheme and easy enough for somebody to work from. Regular Sideswipe (the one more people would want) was common.

I just felt burned because I was trying to be a mould completist.

Of course, as TFU Overkill proves, Hasbro is not above using the customizing class figure concepts for wider releases. So, Shockwave might still happen at mass retail.

I'm still waiting for them to take their turn at Stepper/Ricochet, so I don't know how high up on Hasbro's priority list a Shockwave from that mold is (not to mention there's already a new Deluxe Shockwave hitting later this year, so).

On the other hand, Hasbro never even got around to doing Scourge from the RTS Laser Prime mold, so who knows how their thought process on these things works.

I'd say it's more a case of "Hasbro hasn't even gotten around to doing a repaint of Scourge from the RTS Laser Prime mold yet".

I am joking about my fanrage anyway. I don't have a toy collection at the moment and it's going to be a loooooong time before I do and this is SG anyway which sucks conceptually so I really don't care. I do wonder if there's precedent for Hasbro using Funpub tooling in their mass releases? I can't think of any off hand.

Is there that much of a precedent set for FunPub having all-new tooling?

A lot of the toys in recent years have had new heads (a lot of the figures this year are using the as-yet-unseen extra heads from the regular molds, but there're still a good few in there with all-new heads). You also get other extra parts sometimes, like the new wings that were used on the '07 Seekers.

And no, I don't think any mass-release toy has ever used BotCon-exclusive molding before.

Ah, my mistake. And if I'd thought about it for a minute, I'm sure I'd have remembered that. One of those things, it's so far outside of what I'm likely to get, I just plum forgot about it.
