Re: Movies are awesome
I can't wait to see their passionate Hollywood love meander sloppily across the screen.

Not really. I mean, the first X-Men film didn't really say anything about Wolverine or Sabretooth's backgrounds to confirm or deny if they'd ever met before. Of course Sabretooth didn't really act like he knew him or even have his rivalry with Wolverine in that film either, but still...Gomess wrote:Yyyyeahhhh they also 'established' Sabretooth as having never met Wolverine before,
I don't remember them changing that between X2 and Origin. But it wouldn't surprise me with the train wreck that was Wolverine Origin... And with how First Class is already looking to be shaping up.and Bill Stryker as being a southerner.
Well clearly they have nothing against radically changing characters, but I doubt they'd try to force in younger characters from the other movies. Especially since those characters wont be appearing in First Class anyway. They can change it if they really want to. Wolverine Origin probably lowered the audience's expectations so much they could get away with featuring Iceman and Angel as original members in First Class and no one would care.
Unfortunately, I think that's the only reason why they put him in First Class. Which isn't enough of a reason if you ask me...Azazel is there so he can bone Mystique. Prove me wrong.
The cast list is available online.... They would be on it by now if they were going to be in the film.Shockwave wrote:How do we know they're not in the movie (Cyclops, Wolverine, Storm, etc...)? I mean all we have is a pic which may or may not reflect the whole cast.

Hey, Mystique needs love too!
Are we sure this is actually supposed to tie in with the other movies' "continuity"?

Yes, the director has said in an interview that First Class is supposed to be in-continuity prequel to the first X-Men films.Shockwave wrote:Are we sure this is actually supposed to tie in with the other movies' "continuity"?
Re: Movies are awesome
Oh. Ok, well that's interesting.
Re: Movies are awesome
Mystique has more canonical sex than any other villain in X-Men! What she *needs* is a movie adaptation that's even tangentially related to her comics origin. Heck, considering her depiction as little more than Magneto's concubine in the first movie, what she really needs is less "love", and more *lines*.Shockwave wrote:Hey, Mystique needs love too!

One thing that's gotta be said for that photoshop thing there. It's got Angel in it. Not Warren, I'll pretty much always think of that guy as Archangel, but Angel Salvadore. So my love of Morrisonion X-Men is fighting with the fact that she doesn't look much at all like Angel Salvadore. Well, maybe like Phil Jiminez drew her.
As far as Sabretooth and Wolverine in the movies go, Wolverine got his memory all wiped out at the end of "Origins", so maybe something similar happened to Sabretooth? Not trying to make excuses for the Wolverine movie or anything, but it's certainly plausible.
I had higher hopes for this "First Class" movie before a couple weeks ago, when I saw the Wolverine movie. I enjoyed the first three X-Men movies thoroughly, so I thought "Well, even if this thing's got Deadpool and Gambit in it, I might like the movie versions of those guys, right?"
Nope, turns out I don't. Man, I just wanted to throw things at the screen every time Gambit showed up.

Re: Movies are awesome
This weekend I saw Predators, Dinner for Schmucks and Shrek 4. I liked all three of them.
Predators: We finally see some significant development of the Predator society with this one. Apparently they have an entire planet as a game preserve where they drop the fiercest warriors from Earth and hunt them. We also learn that there are apparently two types of Predators and that the larger ones hunt the smaller ones. which I guess makes sense for a society of hunters. Taken for what it is it was pretty good. It aint' gonna win any Oscars but that ain't why you're watching it.
Dinner for Schmucks: Steve Carrell and Paul Rudd are at their best in this movie. Rudd's character is a guy who winds up in some unusual situations and is really just trying to deal with them the best that he can. Steve Carrell plays an eccentric who makes everything worse, mostly on account of having Asphurger's (it's not diagnosed in the movie but that's the best way I can describe it, he just doesn't pick up on the social cues). Everything does wind up working out (it's your typical formulaic comedy) but it was quite hilarious and I recommend it.
Shrek 4: I think I read somewhere that this would be the final Shrek movie. It was actually pretty good. Shrek makes a deal with Rumplestiltskin to go back to his pre-Fiona existence for one day. The catch is he has to give up a day in exchange. He gives up the day he's born. Which means at the end of his day of solitude he ceases to exist. In his quest to save and go back to the life he had established he has to get to know the other characters again which makes for a lot of moments similar to the first Shrek that made that movie so great. And it works equally well in this one too.
