What needs to be done to improve TF3?

Money, violence, sex, computer graphics, scatalogical humor, racism, robots designed to be rednecks but given European accents, and maybe another sequel to the saga... what's not to love? TF m1, Revenge of the Fallen, Dark of the Moon and now Age of Extinction.

Wow, you're the only one I've ever seen say it was okay. Everyone else I've talked to either loved it or hated it.

It may have been the mindset I was in at the time, but I think it was too long. It definitely errs more on the Good side of Okay, and it's a movie I'd venture to say "Hey, you should watch this at some point," (the same way I might say about Fight Club, Pulp Fiction, Se7en or any other smattering of kickass movies) but my own opinion is mostly that it was Okay.

And yes. Burn.

People spend so much time worrying about whether a figure is "mint" or not that they never stop to consider other flavours.

Well obviously I didn't (and still don't) see such clarifying statement in your post. While you don't expressly mention ROTF, that's what it seemed like you were talking about.
Y'know the third Matrix movie is coming to mind. I seem to recall that doing fairly well at the box office, but is generally regarded as a terrible movie.
Not so much... I mean, it did do somewhat decently at the Box Office but it certainly didn't do as well as they'd hoped it would. Certainly it didn't do as well as the two Matrix movies before it. And I'm not so sure I'd say it was generally regarded as a terrible movie. The reviews I've seen are mixed, at best, which does reflect its Box Office performance.

The simple fact that it has been known to happen means that ticket sales are an unreliable at best method of determining whether or not something is universally regarded as "good". Now, I'll grant you that a movie making a gajillion dollars at the box office USUALLY means that the audience likes it. It's a bit like the Macarena. Everyone loved doing it at the time, but now wouldn't be caught dead doing it.
This. Although I probably should have phrased that sentence like so: There have certainly been movies that have done well at the box office and generally been regarded as bad movies, but I would not say that ROTF is an example of this.

Sparky, at the end of the day you and I are on the same page ultimately making the same point. There is no 100% absolutely reliable way of gauging audience reaction to a film. The current methods available (ticket sales, reviews, dvd sales, etc...) are all unreliable at best. Besides, and this was the point you were making originally is that it doesn't matter what the general viewing public thinks anyway because in the end, yours is the only opinion that should matter to you. I'll go back to NBK as my example. It doesn't matter to me if the general movie going public absolutely loved it, I think it sucked and mine is the only opinion that matters to me. It's a free country and in my opinion everyone else has the right to be wrong.

Yeah, see the way you phrased it before just looked like you were disagreeing with the point on ROTF, not a more generalized stance.

Well I'd disagree that all those methods are unreliable at best. They do all serve to give some indication of the audiences reaction albeit not always a clear cut 'is it good, is it bad'. Ultimately, as you said, that goes back to my point on the individual opinions.

On the other hand, it is possible to have an opinion based on a set fact, (does a movie have sloppy editing, bad acting, bad writing....).

I believe that's the textbook definition of logic  Seriously though, I think that's how most people form their opinions although again, as far as opinions go it's to each his own.

Not really sure how all of this improves TF3 though (vague attempt to get us back on topic). I'd like to see bot modes with more color. It seems like all the robot parts are greyish regardless of what color the altmode is. I'd like to see Unicron come along and eat everything like some sort of galactic Pac-Man from hell. Unlikely though because apparently Di Bonaventura is too much of a pussy to wanna take on a challenge like writing a Unicron story. Not like that would be much of a challenge anyway which really says what a hack he is.

Those are hardly set facts. Again, what "Good" and "Bad" are is opinions from an individual.
