Re: TimeLines (BotCon) 2013 discussion
I saw the Botcon 2013 MW Obsidian pics today. That thing looks so hideous & awful. The lime green/grass colors & newer head sculpt look so horrible on this mold. I DON'T GET IT IS TFCC ON A MISSION TO NOW CREATE UGLIER EXCLUSIVES THAN THE MASS RELEASED VERSIONS..
It seems like TFCC is viewing Machine wars as the gap story/series after G-2 ended & before Beastwars began. Which puts the Obsidian & Strika characters between this sandwich in there MW Pre-BM form/personas. I suspose it makes sense in a way,as all the MW basics toys were canceled G-2 molds.
The main problem with the botcon/club exclusives is not the mold choices nor mold availabilty. It the horrible colors, horrible head sculpts & obsecure/nobody cares about characters applied to these TFCC exclusive toys.
Instead of going for Quanity which has resulted in 90% of the TFCC exclusive toys being awful or mediocre. How about releasing less toys like 2 to 4 so they can of a higher quality.
Honestly the only past TFCC toy I really want is Alpha trion.

Really hate the green they choose for this Obsidian figure, but I'd have to say it's my favorite looking figure that they've shown off for this years exclusive figure collection. Although it does seem odd they chose Obsidian and Strika to be part of a Machine Wars theme... Still, they are nice looking versions of those characters.

Okay, so the brochure is up, and reveals that the fifth toy in the set will be Megaplex. Apparently he's the 'Commander' of an army of clone Skywarps.
This is like...nothing to do with the point of Megaplex or what made the idea of the character so appealing in the first place. The story they've cooked up for it all also pretty much cements that we won't be getting a Megatron to match this Megaplex, further destroying the character's purpose.
The toy itself is set to be revealed on Thursday. There's no way I trust FunPub to not screw this up spectacularly.

Maybe Megaplex is a Dirge remould.
If there's a clone army of Skywarps, though, then...what, is the troop builder set going to Also be Skywarps? Maybe there's a reason the one in the set has been advertised as "Teleporting" Skywarp.

Yeah, it's not like the original concept for Megaplex was ripe for troop-builder options. No, it makes way more sense to market Skywarp as a clone army. And decoys are a dumb idea, Megaplex should be the LEADER of this clone army! What the hell even is Megaplex anymore, just another generic bad guy commander?Onslaught Six wrote:Maybe Megaplex is a Dirge remould.

I am way more upset by this than I should be.

Hey, I'm just as angry as you are! It's like, one of Machine Wars' ONLY unique and interesting concepts...and they completely fuck it up.
The ONLY way this will be acceptable is if Megaplex is a Classics Megs repaint as Blue Megatron, and has a bitchin' sword. (Alternatively, I will totally be surprised if they somehow manage to do a Black Megatron repaint of ClaMegs. Maybe they can get around the laws with this being a convention toy.)

And, the current buzz has it that there is not going to be a "Hall of Fame" event this year. Given how devisive the HoF has proven to be in the past, (generally coming down to G1 v/s BW), it is hard to say that this is any actual loss.
Edit: And, apparently, Fun Publications is selling the custom class figures independent of the classes. I am not sure what the production runs will be. But, this is a step in the right direction.

Aww. That's kinda sucky. Can we not have any traditions?

Oh sure, NOW they start that. Couldn't have happened last year when the characters was SHOCKWAVE!!Dominic wrote:And, the current buzz has it that there is not going to be a "Hall of Fame" event this year. The Hall of Fame I was thought was lame-o,as they never created newer toys for the HOF winners.Dominic wrote:And, the current buzz has it that there is not going to be a "Hall of Fame" event this year. It was also a bad idea,Because TF fans with tons of free time on their hands & different IP addresses would vote hundreds/thousands of times. It wasn't really fair voting,as it came down to those with more free time would win over does with less free time.
My guess is Fun pub charges the same class fee for the non-class figures. the whole point in paying so much to begin with was paying for the custom supplies given to each classs member. Also some of the class fees went for the teachers doing the class.Dominic wrote: Edit: And, apparently, Fun Publications is selling the custom class figures independent of the classes.
