Wow, it didn't occur to me that there could be votes for any of the other Jetstorms, I have to be more careful about that sort of thing I guess.
He's the only one that really stands out to me as a character, so I thought I should specify.
Ah, ok.

Onslaught Six wrote:5. Mirage - Mirage is a great character and he's a name that Hasbro fought REALLY hard to protect...and then seemingly let him disappear off shelves for a decade. I'd love it if Mirage's character could come back in in a big way, but we'll see.
I totally agree, it's weird how they've kinda let the character fall to the wayside.
I guess part of it is...Sometimes fans latch onto a character from a previous series. Waspinator and Dinobot are key examples. Sky-Byte is another. Lockdown and Lugnut from Animated. Barricade is pretty much the most notable non-Megatron, non-Starscream Decepticon in all three of the movies, and he's, if nothing else, an original concept that hasn't been ruthlessly exploited in the rest of the franchise yet.
The difference is that Waspy, Dinoot, Sky-byte, Lockdown, Lugnut, they all DO stuff, they stand out not just visually but as real chracters. Barricade stands out because he is the only Decepticon in the first movie to say anything of note besides Megatron, but he really doesn't DO anything and isn't a standout character on his own, he just has a look.
If Barricade didn't speak in DOTM, I don't think there'd be any way to know
He does, but he's voiced by Frank Welker.
Soooooo, he's the same guy but voiced differently. Super not helpful, these movies are.

are internet TF fans really bundling 2001 Rid Sideways with AEC Sideways. PERSONALLY I think this seems wrong for 2 reasons. 1- the 2001 Rid & AEC were in two different alternate G-1 Universes. 2- 2001 Rid Sideways is clearly a totally different persona character than AEC Sideways was. AEC Sideways had ties to Unicron & was clearly working for him as a loyal servant. even in the Cybertron cartoon series,It was speculated that Sideways & soundwave came from planet X,Many internet TF fans speculated that Planet X was Unicron.

It's not the fans on this one, there are official materials (from Takara, I believe) that confirm that RiD Sideways and UT Sideways (in his disparate appearances) are the same dude. The 'alternate universes' thing doesn't matter in this case since this Sideways is specifically a dimensional traveller. There's no speculation in this case, this is legit.

Our current top 5 looks like this:

Devastator
Ravage
Ultra Magnus
Barricade
Galvatron

The votes are VERY close between them.

I moved your post to the discussion thread because that is a VOTING thread.

It's the Hasbro bio for the Armada figure that first drags RID Sideways into the UT character of the same name (the RID character was sold with RID Axer, whose bio says he's the G1 character via a black hole), and then the Takara release ran with that and crammed it up its own ass confirming it, and this got used in the Allspark Almanac with an Animated version of the character who is ALSO the same (as is the ROTF character).

Officially, that was never confirmed. There is an Animated version of Sideways based on the design of the Armada guy (the same way Animated Hot Shot is based on the design of Armada Hot Shot but isn't the same guy) and the tiny postage stamp of an entry jokes the Sideways may be heading to some place called 'Shanghai', but confirms absolutely nothing about who he is, what he's actually doing, or how many other Sidewayses he is.

Just clarifying this all now because I've been down this road before.

It's enough to add more troubles to the character's shoulders.

Blame for that falls on one of the idiots responsible for the show. It is not the first time that he has made something official and then contradicted his previous statement (often in fan-press).

No, it wasn't? Neither Isenberg nor Wyatt wrote for the Allspark Almanac, that was done by Sorenson and Forester, who went off info they were given BY the show-runners for character profiles and episodes info, and then threw in a bunch of 'easter eggs' and other goodies for funsies. The mention of Sideways was one of these easter eggs, he doesn't have an actual profile in the book, or even a full-size character model published. He has absolutely nothing to do with anything from the actual show, and his being mentioned in the Almanac was nothing more than a joke that the absolute worst transfan of all time happened to take seriously (and when the majority of transfans are willing to call David Willis out on something, you know it was a stupid idea to begin with).

Voting is now complete for our round, I'm sending in our results in a few minutes.

So here are the final results, and it's a whopper...

1. Ultra Magnus
2. Devastator
3. Ravage
4. Mirage (tied)
4. Barricade (tied)

Only 1 character was voted for by more than half the voters, Devastator. More people want Devastator, but want him LESS than Ultra Magnus is wanted by his fans.

Half the fans that voted for Ultra Magnus didn't vote for Devastator, while 2/3rds of those who voted for Devastator didn't vote for Ultra Magnus, an interesting breakdown that is oddly similar to their votes last year, only this time more votes for each.

Odd to see Devastator get so much of a push. I like Devastator and all, just not that much. (And, I have no confidence in Hasbro's ability to make a good Devastator so it is hard to be even a little excited about the prospect of a new toy.)

JT, did you use the same scoring method as last year (awarding more points to more favoured characters)?

Ah. My mistake. Still, it was somebody who was writing officially for the property being a twerp. (Remember, it was not just the thing with Sideways. Sorenson also gibber-wanked around with "Alignment".)
