All the same, it was at best incredibly bad judgement, if not malicious stupidity, by Milne.
Dom
-of course that fact that Willis enjoys the attention.......
On the other hand, if you're a Transformers fan like me who doesn't get into "fan politics" as it were, it's all much ado about nothing. Who cares why Milne drew what he drew, or whether or not Willis is bothered by it? Why does any of that matter? I don't see that it does.

Because it can escalate. We buy semi-automatics, they buy automatics. We buy bulletproof vests, they buy armour piercing rounds. You're flying around at night dressed up like a bat, and, well...
In all seriousness, doing stuff like this can lead to increased fan insularness. How long before, I dunno, a writer kills off Drift because he likes Willis and Willis hates Drift? Then, shit, Drift is dead, and people who do like Drift are shit out of luck.
And it's not even that. I mean, like...'I' like Hot Shot. I think he can be done well. I don't want him to die.

Bam. There it is. I want to enjoy my comics. I want to enjoy my damned action figures. (I am thinking one of the best things about PCC is the fact that it is kind of its own little thing.) I do not want comics that are filled with in-jokes and cheap shots between writers, artists and fans. There is more than enough of that kind of bull shit on message boards. As I said above, I am more than a bit annoyed at having to pay $4 a month for comics if they are just going to be this sort of thing.
In this case, it is not so bad, as the direction and tone of the comic are not affected. But, it is still petty and stupid to take a shot at a fan because one's friend thinks that said fan is a ding-a-lingus. Milne is illustrating comics for IDW and Hasbro, not his friend. The fact that Tipton had to come out and "clarify" things, both on the page and editorially, shows how quickly this kind of thing can get out of control.
Dom
-hates being in Wills' corner.

It's only going to escalate if people make a big deal out of it, right? So why contribute to that? Ignore it. That's what I do.

By escalate, we also mean "people will just keep doing it more".
Dom
-really will not keep buying comics if this keeps happening.

I don't see that there is any danger of "escalation" here. A company doesn't have anything to gain by insulting it's fans. But more to the point, I don't see that there was anything malicious here in the first place. What I see is a few fans misinterpreting and over reacting to some harmless cannon fodder.

I've been meaning to point out for a while now that Hot Shot's a UT character and thus has no place in G1 continuity. Just because a generic that looks like him got killed in a G1-canon comic doesn't mean he's dead in his actual universe forever.

Yeah, this. And not only that, Hot Shot hasn't looked like that forever in his own world. Of course, what are the odds his universe is gonna be showing up again in official fiction, right?
It's like, did anyone pitch a bitch about Scourge, Thunderwing, and Bludgeon getting killed off in the Armada comics? Maybe Dropshot's a better example.

Like I said, it is not that the character is dead. It is that the character was killed off as part of an oh-so-clever in-joke in a mainline book.
