TimeLines (BotCon) 2013 discussion

Ancillary, non-main-line stuff. Star Wars TF, Speed Stars, Titanium Series, Robot Heroes, that sort of thing. They're kinda neat, but we all know they're not really that important. Admit it, you know it's true.

God dammit, did Six call it, or did he call it?

So seriously, what is FunPub's thinking on this one? Warpath isn't even a good fit as a mold for Strika, the proportions are all wrong and Strika doesn't turn into a tank. Hell, Warpath as Blastcharge would have made more sense, at least both of them have the 'turret sticking out of the chest' thing going on. Strika doesn't even *need* a new toy, her old one was great (it's a perrinial favorite of mine)!

This is ridiculous and I've lost all faith in FunPub to even remotely pull this off right. I'm writing this set off, there's no way they're gonna pull Megaplex off at this rate.

Goddamn that's just angeringly stupid.

My only thought is just fucking WHY.

I can *almost* see where they were trying to go with this, with Strika having been a Maximal (?) general prior to her role in Beast Machines, so as a pre-BM, possibly BW-era Strika, it's an interesting idea for a toy.

...except that the mold is an abysmal choice for the character, and has absolutely no place in a Machine Wars set.

Some people have pointed out that if they're going to do Obsidian, the HFTD Highbrow mold wouldn't be a bad choice. And they're right, it would work well. This of course means that FunPub will go with some stupid shit like, I dunno, Universe Powerglide.

Actually HFTD Tomahawk would work decently too, but they'd probably use ROTF Blaze Master or something instead.

I need to quit making predictions, they're worthless at this point!

I'm glad it's another horrible botcon toy. Because the prices are so extremely high,I can't afford any of them.

That Botcon Strika photo shoped sample looks like a two year old kid did it.

And, Strika is an Autobot. If they make an Obsidian figure as part of this year's set, I am likely going to be getting them.

-admits that a purple and yellow Autobot is kind of....odd.

The next figure has been revealed as Obsidian, a retool of RTS Highbrow.

For whatever reason, Fun Publications went with the original toy colours, bright green with some bright yellow highlights. I would be more okay with this except for the fact that the character's name is "Obsidian", which implies dark and heavy colours, not bright and light colours.

This figure kills my enthusiams for Stika and bring's this year's "Dom Temptation" rating down to a bottom-outing 0:4, If the next, and final, figure from the boxed set is not something amazing, this might be another skip year for me. (Of course, I am getting Breakdown, so it will not be a full skip year.)

Ahem.

"Bluestreak"

That will be all.

Hey, now, Prowl, that's not fair. Bluestreak's name works because his name is an actual term and applies just as much to his personality as it does to his (preproduction) colour scheme. Obsidian doesn't have that luxury.

EDIT: OH GOD, IT JUST CLICKED, and I'm stupid for not realizing it sooner.

I'm betting any money FunPub is going to make this a "what's going on on Cybertron during BW" story. In other words, pre-Beast Machines. Hence..."Machine Wars."

It's pretty much the worst idea they could possibly come up with--so of course they're doing it.

Now, Terradive-Depth Charge makes a lot more sense in context...ugh.

Yeah, it's not like 'Obsidian' can also connote sleekness or aerodynamics, or bring to mind an association with a 'native' characterization of someone loyal to the land itelf. ;)

Just sayin', I always felt it was a fine name for the character, regardless of his colors.

But then why are there Autobots, and Earth-vehicles, and...urgh.

God dammit, if they wanted to do a Cybertron-during-BW set, they should have just GONE with that, instead of trying to smash it together with a half-assed Machine Wars homage that just flat-out doesn't work that way. A bunch of new vehicle-mode Maximals (plus Obsidian and Strika) in the vein of the vehicular Predacons/Destrons from BWII? I could be down with that. This is just...so friggin' loopy.

Not to mention that such a setting would terminate and obliterate the last sliver of hope we had of seeing Megatron/Megaplex in this set.

Also, let me just say that I'm not agreeing with the exclusive being Obsidian in toy colors, I actually think it's frelling stupid. For one, because a lot more people would probably be excited to finally be able to get a black Obsidian, and for another, because both previous uses of the mold were ALREADY GREEN!
