We've got Hall of Fame voting going on up there
Re: We've got Hall of Fame voting going on up there
But, the toys came first and on all the box art, instructions and catalogues and even the Diaclone pre TF box art he had the wings. Also, issue 1, page 4, panel 2. That's clearly Jazz drawn there, with wings (even if Nelson Yomtov fucked up again by coloring him as Bumblebee). But that's still the Jazz toy model. You are right in the first time that he's actually identified as Jazz but I'm not sure that counts since by that point (in the same issue no less) the Floro Derry cartoon design influences were already heavily creeping their way into the comic. I think the only way we're gonna agree on this is by making distinctions between content. So yes, you're right that in the cartoon and comic universes, Jazz doesn't have wings. But in the officially produced by hasbro products, and on the diaclone package art, he did. It's a bit like the whole Rumble/Frenzy thing. O6 likes Rumble is blue. I like Rumble is red. But, in the G1 cartoon I have to concede that O6 is right because in that cartoon Rumble was blue.
Incidently, this is one majore sticking point that I always hated about the cartoon. They fucked things up all the time and in spite of officially produced content from Hasbro, people would argue that Hasbro was wrong and the cartoon was right. And I'm sure Dom would back me up in saying that's just not how it works. Which is why I always preferred the Hasbro's content (tech specs, instructions, what have you).

The Frenzy/Rumble thing has always mystified me, since the cartoon is pretty much the *only* place where they had those colors, it doesn’t even flip-flop situationally the way Jazz’s wings do. Combined with the fact that Frenzy and Rumble had pretty much the same personality in the cartoon anyway, and I’ve always wondered why people would so emphatically worked up over the cartoon’s accidentally-switched-colors having to be the ‘right’ version. (And really, it was more like Frenzy is Black, Rumble is Purple in the cartoon. Like that weird purple that Nintendo always seemed to think was blue. Purple Yoshi!)Shockwave wrote:I think the only way we're gonna agree on this is by making distinctions between content. I’ll agree with you, actually, but to a point, since Hasbro doesn’t get things right all the time either. You could argue that the cartoon and I are transforming Tigerhawk wrong, since according to his packaging pics and the *art based on them* his talons are supposed to be hanging fully outstretched in front of his chest when, come on, we all know that’s wrong.Incidently, this is one majore sticking point that I always hated about the cartoon. Of course, I’m the guy that spells it ‘Tankorr’ because of what’s likely a typo in the instructions with everywhere else spelling it with one ‘r’, so what do I know?

The implication, I think, is that Tigerhawk 'can' extend those out. Like, he has weird extra bird talon arms on his tits. So like, he'd grab hold of you with them, and then punch you with his robot hands.BWprowl wrote:I’ll agree with you, actually, but to a point, since Hasbro doesn’t get things right all the time either. You're not the only one, 86 and I do that too. Mostly because it 'looks cooler!' I don't know why but it does. Puts emphasis on the orrrrrr part, and makes it seem more like a name than Tankor, which just sounds like Tanker with an O for...whatever reason.Of course, I’m the guy that spells it ‘Tankorr’ because of what’s likely a typo in the instructions with everywhere else spelling it with one ‘r’, so what do I know?

Because the cartoon am have the moobing pictauhs! The Frenzy/Rumble thing has always mystified me, since the cartoon is pretty much the *only* place where they had those colors, it doesn’t even flip-flop situationally the way Jazz’s wings do.
Seriously. The cartoon has moving pictures, and that is enough for some people. It is the same reason that movie purist fans of "Star Wars" are less likely to wholly discount/deride the (middling) "Clone Wars" cartoon than they are the comics or the novels. (I personally know at least one guy who praises plot points in the cartoon that he said were stupid when the comics used them several years earlier.)
As for Jazz, it is possible to fold in the door wings on the toy. But, it looks really half-assed.

The cartoon has easily 10x the exposure of any other medium, including the toy packaging, and was available for free on a regular basis with reruns.
I also spell it "Tankorr" or even more Rs because it just seems more "orrrrrr" that way.
So, uh... voting ends in 2 days.

See, that one's a camcorder, that one's a camera, that one's a phone, and they're doing "Speak no evil, See no evil, Hear no evil", get it?

Hey, so does having the doors flopping around on the sides as 'wings', but them's the breaks with kibble, really.Dominic wrote:As for Jazz, it is possible to fold in the door wings on the toy. But, it looks really half-assed.

I never thought it looked half assed but that's because I really like the look on the Prowl/Bluestreak/Smokescreen mold and I like to think of Jazz as another variation of that.

Been slacking, I only managed to vote once a day most days. Twice a few times. And, a few other times, I did not have a chance to vote at all.
(I voted for Arcee early on, but switched to Wheeljack quickly enough.)

And...Wheeljack got in.
I kind of have mixed feelings about this. After all, how can I possibly complain about this? Granted, I kind of preferred Prowl. But, Wheeljack is a damned good choice.
But, still, I need something to complain about. And, now that we have a good character in the HoF, I cannot derisively call it "The Hall of Furries".
On the other hand, Wheeljack got in, which is objectively good news.
