Dom, you’ve got some seriously skewed criteria when it comes to this sort of thing. Regardless of how you feel about his work from the past few years (and I’ll personally admit that at least the last couple things Furman did Didn’t Suck. Hell, Maximum Dinobots was genuinely great!), Furman has still had enormous impact on the TF franchise as a whole. He’s written more TF fiction than the rest of IDW’s writers *combined*, and at least the first half of all the stuff he did was genuinely good, and important in shaping the TF universe in all future incarnations; Transformers wouldn’t be even remotely close to what is now without Furman doing all that he did. Is his pedestal a bit broken now? Maybe, but the HoF is there to honor past, as well as present, contributions, and Furman was *the* past contributor. Just because the HoF didn’t exist during his heyday in the late eighties is no reason he and his contributions shouldn’t be honored in it now.
I mean, they’re inducting Grimlock in this year. Grimlock wouldn’t *be* Grimlock without Simon Furman. You at least owe the guy some credit Dom.
What the hell did Abnett do? He’s responsible for ‘Infestation’ and ‘Heart of Darkness’, which managed to make Furman’s ‘-ation’ run look amazing by comparison. Maybe his name brought a few new people into reading the comics, but you bet your ass he chased them right back out again by providing some truly awful stories. People shouldn’t be inducted in just because they wrote some half-assed comics within the last year.

Like I said, I am just a bit sick of hearing about how greak Furman is, especially after the last 10 years.
Yes, he has written some good comics. Hell, he has written some great comics. But, TF would also not be TF without Shooter or Tokar.
Dom
-may be counting Abnett's star power a little too heavily.

I get that, buuuuuut the question is how does your being sick of hearing about Furman have any bearing on the Hall of Fame? I only generally read "Transformers" comics, not other comics in general and therefore am only familiar with Abnett's work in Transformers. As such, he has 0 "star power" with me and, based solely on his TF work, he would be on my ignore list (if I had such a list).
Re: We've got Hall of Fame voting going on up there
I very much doubt that. Furman's name hasn't been associated with much good lately, and I don't see a ton of threads or comments around here praising his excellence. For that matter, the Furman love- at least from what I've been able to tell- has mellowed out considerably on all the forums I visit (Allspark, TFW). I imagine the only way you're constantly hearing about how great Furman is, is if you're actively seeking out conversations about Furman.Dominic wrote:Like I said, I am just a bit sick of hearing about how greak Furman is, especially after the last 10 years.
Now, I know this is how Furman was perceived for the longest time. But I think you may still be harboring a dislike of how the fanbase worshiped him years ago as opposed to how he's been received in the last 5 or 10 years.
His work on IDW's Beast Wars is still the biggest pile of shit ever.

Worse than his work on 3H's Beast Wars? Oh wait, THEY ARE THE SAME THING!Mako Crab wrote:His work on IDW's Beast Wars is still the biggest pile of shit ever.
Spoiler
That's it, let's bring out the Furman-hate in this thread! Maybe that'll help Dom get over it! >_>

It should be 1 vote per IP, multiple browsers will give an OK sign but server-side they weed out the multiple votes from the same IP, that's how they run the SW polls they do.Dominic wrote:Well, for the moment, I work in a computer lab. And, it is actually "1 vote per browser, per computer, per day". Of course, for me to properly exploit that, I would have to explain so much computer hopping. But, I might make some use of it.![]()
It's not about who is at the foundation, it's about who has carried the ball farthest.Dominic wrote:Like I said, I am just a bit sick of hearing about how greak Furman is, especially after the last 10 years.

Man, it sucks being sick for this whole voting thing, could have had such more powerful arguments if I wasn't feeling so bad.

See, that one's a camcorder, that one's a camera, that one's a phone, and they're doing "Speak no evil, See no evil, Hear no evil", get it?

Re: We've got Hall of Fame voting going on up there
Because credibility outside the Transformers franchise is exactly what Hasbro is looking for in their TRANSFORMERS HALL OF FAME? Longevity isn't why Furman is being inducted into the Hall of Fame. And whether or not you like his work in the past 10 years isn't either. It's what he's done for the franchise. You're not looking at the Hall of Fame entries objectively Dom.Dominic wrote:Jim Shooter, Rob Tokar, Geoff Senior, Andrew Wildman.... Hell, even Dan Abnett who at least has some credibility outside the franchise.
Furman has left much to be desired in the last 10 years. Yeah, he has longevity.
And of those you listed, Andrew Wildman I can see, maybe Jim Shooter and Geoff Senior.
Re: We've got Hall of Fame voting going on up there
I could also maybe see a case for Don Figuroa as well since he's done a lot of the art in recent years and even had figures made of some of his designs.

Re: We've got Hall of Fame voting going on up there
There's a good chance I wouldn't be as into TF stuff as I am now if I hadn't gotten into Furman's stuff at the tail end of Marvel G1. So it's probably his fault that I have all these damn toys lying around here. So I'm completely behind him being in the Hall of Fame. Besides, dude's probably written more Transformer stuff than anyone else at this point, so if he doesn't belong in there then who the hell does?

I wonder if Dom would feel better about Pat Lee being inducted to the Hall of Fame than Furman.
