My favorite line in RID was when Slapper, Gaskunk and Darkscream bring a big bag of batteries and after Megatron asks if they thought that would be enough to make energon cubes Slapper goes "Well, yeah, sort of."

See, that's successful campaigning! Six, you'll completely convinced me to spend my votes on Sky-Byte. And to dig his toy out of storage next time I'm at my parents' house (I think his toy is reason enough for induction in the HoF: He's definitive proof that sometimes all it takes is a color scheme to elevate a mold from lame to awesome). And to watch RiD again, once I'm done with Kamen Rider Ryuki and maybe after I've logged some more hours in Persona3. But I definitely want to watch it again, it's been ages! The best part is going to be hearing all the Fox Kids Anime Dub voices they jammed into the thing.

I like anime, and I enjoyed RID but I've never liked Sky-Byte.

I also loved the part where he had three model trains strapped to his back in an attempt to look like Railracer!

Or the part where the Predacons show up in disguise...all as Optimus Prime.

Christ I need to re-watch this show.

I'm sick right now, weak and tired, but I saw something here that made me had to come post (that thing was an ep of RID with Sky Byte, I'll get to that in a moment).
Dominic wrote:What I was saying was that "G1 was dead a bit more than 10 years ago". It got revived in 2002, flopped again. And, then, in 2005/2006, Hasbro started pushing G1 again.

BW, at this point, is where G1 was 10+ years ago.

In others words, there is G1 stuff now. There was not G1 10+ years ago.
Yes I know that, and I'm saying that if you saw G1 as dead back then, who knows how you'll feel in a few years about BW when it's "dead" right now.

O6 wrote:While I think we can all agree that Animated was cut short (due to the Hub thing), it had 39 episodes across three seasons; BW had 52 across the same amount (although "Season 1" lasted for two years, so...yeah.) And we can tell just from watching Animated that it was supposed to go to at least Season 4. Objectively BW doesn't have much more than Animated.
I think also that Animated calling back so much to other iterations of TF, riffing off of it, gives it a less substantial feel to its run than BW. Plus, BW had almost no competition, there were almost no kids shows right around then.
"Unstoppable?" That's an overstatement. Waspinator could be stopped and often was; he just didn't die when he got blown to pieces for comic relief.
I meant unkillable.
That was part of the point of RID, though. The Destrongers were all pitiful idiots. Including Gigatron. That's why they're named THE DESTRONGERS. They're STRONGER than the other Destrons! No, seriously, they are dude! For real! Believe me!

Gigatron is the young schoolyard kid boasting about his totally badass rare Pokemon cards, but won't let you see them because all he has is a regular Pikachu that everyone has dozens of. Gigatron sucks so bad he couldn't even conquer a planet in his own universe, he had to go to an alternate Earth that hadn't encountered Transformers yet to try and take them over. He's trying so hard that when he first meets Fire Convoy he boasts that he's eaten planets before. (Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating now, but he definitely claims to have destroyed planets.) That's what's so endearing about the RID Preds; they're all a bunch of hilarious failures, and yet the Autobots treat them like they're this huge threat.
I suspect your heightened affinity is partly due to your age when RID first aired, because I just cannot see what in there makes Sky Byte not a lamewad.

His toy is ugly as shit though, whether or not it's his colors or Cybershark's, that figure sucks. Cybershark's first figure's repaint/remold sucks too, come to think of it. Every figure based on Cybershark sucks.

I just queued up an ep with Sky-Byte in the title, first off, I had forgotten how incredibly horrible the opening credits to the show were. And then I had forgotten how horrid the voice acting and casting was, and how every character does and says incredibly annoying stuff pretty much all the damned time, and how middlingly the art was drawn. But then HOLY SHIT there's Sky Byte with easily the stupidest thing going on ever: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6PZze8wGyI
Oh my god, that was painful to watch. That was bad for an anime import. That was just BAD. But thanks to the rose-tinted glasses of nostalgia, Sky-Byte is a top-5 Hall of Fame nominee. Ugh. You people are nuts.

See, that one's a camcorder, that one's a camera, that one's a phone, and they're doing "Speak no evil, See no evil, Hear no evil", get it?

That only thing that will make me care about BW again will be if something good and official comes out. I need to be resold on it. The last few times I sampled anything from the beast era, the flavour was "excremint".

The only reason I care about G1 at the moment is that there is new/good stuff coming out for it.

Remember how Scourge's animation model had light piping? Yeah, that was awesome.

All of that's your opinion, and you are entitled to it. I personally think Sky-Byte's toy is beautiful and his character is amusing. Surely we can still get along!
