Got it. Read it. Loved it.


Transformers #16:
This issue gives met he feeling that Costa's meta-arc is comign to an end. Megatron is back, and acting crazy. (Part of me wonders if Thundercracker will go back to Megatron.) Most of the Autobots, and at least a few of the humans, who were on the transpor are revealed to be alive. Magnus gets to play the fool when dealing with Megatron, and then gets to be the adult with the other Autobots. (His reasoning for not attacking the nativist humans is sound.) There are still some threads that will likely be unresolved. But, the Costa's main arc seems to be winding down. Hopefully, he sticks around for another round or two though.

Grade: A
More comics should be this good.

And a week late, I head for the comic shop and get the last copy of #16 off the shelf. With the Nick Roche cover. Since Brawn was my first Transformer ever, back in the day, I'm delighted to see him get a nice role in the story, whooping up on Starscream.

I'm liking this storyline a lot more than just about anything from the first year of this book. We're getting some good action, and with the "Megatron pistols" available to the humans, they're a threat to the Transformers, which they need to be. Or rather, any one of them could be a threat, which ups the tension in the book.

Starscream and Thundercracker talk, with some nice dialogue and a fun cutting line from Thundercracker. "The Autobot's pitch was better." And who is Starscream to talk about arrogance? Seems to me that he's the king of that trait. But Brawn takes him down a peg or two, which is great fun to watch.

And the even more invincible Megatron shows himself, trashing an entire unit of Autobots, killing humans and trash-talking Ultra Magnus. And interestingly enough, as Starscream says, he's back for the humans rather than the Autobots. Which gives Costa yet another reason for keeping the action focused on Earth.

I'm still happier with the Transformers as a series than I have been for some time. Really enjoyed the issue.

This statement puzzles the hell out of me. I see people do it with GI Joe, too. I mean...I've never grown especially attached to Powermaster Prime or Wheelie or Cosmos. (I have no idea which of those three are first.) Or Polar Claw or Optimus Primal, for that matter. (Well, okay, I'm attached to Polar Claw, but he's awesome.)

Well yeah, you never forget, but it's not like I think Hubcap is particularly awesome just because he was my first toy. Hubcap's boring.

In my experience, the first one is bumpy and awkward. Everything gets better with practice.

-Was excited when I saw Wheelie being awesome but that was mostly cause I never thought I'd see it.

It is not even a question of which character you had a toy of as a kid.

I have *never* owned a G1 Mirage. At most, the closest I came to owning a Mirage before "Classics" was RiD Mirage, (if you even count that). But, I have always like the character. Much the same goes for Hound and Sunstreaker. In cases, there is just a certain idiosnycratic appeal. Along similar lines, I have never felt much sentimental attachment to Ramjet, despite Ramjet being the only one of the original 6 planes I had while growing up.


That said, the real challenge now is not letting "Infestation" sour me on the ongoing.

Well it sort of is. I have a weakness for the '84 minibots because they were the first ones I got as a kid and it was a while before I got others. As such I had more play time with them than some of the others so I guess it's kind of like how you feel closer to people you've known longer maybe? Or something similar to that. Huffer Brawn, Windcharger and Gears were the first four that I got (they were all in one xmas package) so yeah, I kind like seeing them get some good face time.
