Re: Transformers - ongoing series
Sadly, that's probably true. But it's especially noticeable when it comes to AHM.
I haven't read the issue yet. Flipped through it, and it's gratifying that Megatron doesn't blow Starscream to bits, and that Starscream maintains his composure at the sight of the revived Megatron. "I know you'd be back...". Don's humans get more and more cartoony though, don't they?
I'll have to do a full review when I've had a chance to read it properly.

Re: Transformers - ongoing series
Starscream was really strong in this issue, and I like how the begrudging chemistry between him and Megatron that we saw in AHM has not been lost here. The bit of clarification on Megatron's thoughts on the Matrix was nice too, even though most of us had pretty much figured it out already. By God I really like what they've done with the Matrix in IDW; they've taken a MacGuffin that no one should have really cared about, and made me INTERESTED in what it is, and what it does.
I wonder what Brawn's job is. Who's that he's punching on the next-issue preview?

Spoiler
I was surprised when the guy Thundercracker was talking to at the end turned out to be Starscream. I honestly thought it was gonna be Skywarp.
I don't venture to TF forums besides this one. What sort of complaints are you alluding to?Dom wrote:Issue 15:
Damn, as much as I like this book, the sheer amount of bitching and whining from some corners of the fandom is actually starting to sour me on it. Objectively, this is not Costa's fault....but....
Once again, Costa makes the mistake of writing about the literacy of large chunks of the fandom. And, in this case, he did not have to work very hard at that, because all he did was *write* in the most basic sense. Simply reading the words that are printed clearly on the page, (or even looking at things that were not transformers in the accompanying pictures), would have answered for people questions and complaints about this issues consistency with previous issues of the comic.

Re: Transformers - ongoing series
Dom, Prowl's right, if you're having issues with some of the seedier parts of the fandom, then don't go to those parts of the fandom. Frankly I have better and more interesting things to do with my life than listen to people I don't know and don't care about make up excuses to hate something that I like. Life's too short so fuck 'em.

Hah, I am still beating Anderson. I sure as hell ain't posting a proper review, but I at least read it before him! Hah!
Prowl, the complaints are just getting more obnoxious. Rather than complaining about things as they are printed on the page, people are now creatively misreading the comics and fabricating things to complain about. (The "continuity problems" with this issue are only problems if one cannot read the damned words on the page.) You and Shockwave actually hit an element of my 10 Point New Year's plan. I am trying to avoid AllSpark's forums and such now.
And, we now have an official word on Megatron's view of the Matrix: It is an interesting curiosity with definite symbolic value, possibly with other uses. And, at this point, it is best to be rid of it.

I am guessing that was Starscream. Look at the vents on the side of his head. (Thundercracker, as drawn by Figueroa, lacks them.)I wonder what Brawn's job is. Who's that he's punching on the next-issue preview?

Er... Dom? That's Nick Roche's work, not Figueroa's. And that Seeker does have vents on the sides of his head, Brawn is just punching one of them off (you can see the broken bits above and below Brawn's fist) while the other vent is only just visible in the very corner of the page. Also, if you turn back a page you can see Figueroa does draw Thundercracker with the vents on his head as well.Dominic wrote:I am guessing that was Starscream. There is no "possibly" about it... The dialog clearly tells us "the function of that ludicrous device was still unknown". Meaning they know it has a function, but not what that function is. And Megatron had no interest in it for any curiosity or symbolic values. It's simply not knowing what it does that made it threat in Megatron's eyes. And, we now have an official word on Megatron's view of the Matrix: It is an interesting curiosity with definite symbolic value, possibly with other uses. Man, I'd actually love to see Sunstorm show up. I mean, they've already stuck Acid Storm in there, so it'd be cool for the other Bonus Jonas Seeker to appear.Shockwave wrote:It's Sunstorm's big debut!
Plus it might convince Hasbro to put out a Classics Sunstorm toy, which is the true final goal to a lot of the plans I set in motion. That and a new Sky Lynx.

Re: Transformers - ongoing series
This book is finally starting to feel like Transformers to me. By which I mean, we're finally seeing some conflict between Autobots and Decepticons again, of the sort we haven't really seen much of since Maximum Dinobots. Humans appear in the issue, but the action and plot is largely focused on the Transformers, which is as it should be.
And we get a lot of explanations that makes sense here... what happened to Megatron's old body, how the "Megatron" pistols arrived on Earth (it was deliberate), and why Megatron didn't simply move against Starscream right away. And his view of the Matrix is interesting as well. He believes that it has a function and that many hold it in awe, but at this point he'd rather be rid of it.
It looks like this series is hitting its groove. I'm really looking forward to it every month.
