And sure enough this issue we saw it. Anyway... so... issue 15 review! This issue did a lot to resolve some of the questions about what the Decepticons were doing while they were on the asteroid as well as what their plans on Earth are.

It seems like they're back to being in some sort of infiltration mode again. Sort of. It also seems that Megatron's left over parts are somehow gaining in intelligence and might even be forming it's own sentience and personality. I'm interested to see where this is going. I also found it interesting that Shockwave was so pivotal in Megatron's return. It seems in this continuity he is somewhat loyal to Megatron, a departure from what we've seen in previous comic forms. The Matrix is referrenced again and this time we learn that Megatron still doesn't know what it does, but is still convinced that it has some sort of power. However, this time it is implied that he suspects that it cannot be used by a Decepticon.

I like the pacing in this issue. It moves the story along quite a bit without giving everything away. All in all, it's a good issue and I'm still very interested to see what happens next.

Also, I re read Megatron Origins. It doesn't state there that it was one legend of Megatron's rise to power, that statement was made in the Continuum recap/retcon (apparently) issue. But, either way, that book is part of the continuity so the statement is still official. Origins is one legend, not necessarily an historically accurate account of what actually happened.

With how full of errors and problematic Continuum is for the continuity... I'd be surprised if IDW still counts anything in it over the stories it was supposed to be chronicling. Even the guy that wrote it admitted he's embarrassed by how bad it turned out to be. So I wouldn't say Origins is only "a legend" just because it said so in Continuum.

Anyway... Good to see the Decepticons going back to an actual strategic method of attack with the situation on Earth. Also pleased to finally get some answers about Megatron taking the Matrix. As I've said all along, Megatron sees the potential in the Matrix despite not knowing what it does.

No time to post much, but....


I am pretty sure that Schmidt said that "Continuum" should actually be ignored.

Issue 15:

Damn, as much as I like this book, the sheer amount of bitching and whining from some corners of the fandom is actually starting to sour me on it. Objectively, this is not Costa's fault....but....

Once again, Costa makes the mistake of writing about the literacy of large chunks of the fandom. And, in this case, he did not have to work very hard at that, because all he did was *write* in the most basic sense. Simply reading the words that are printed clearly on the page, (or even looking at things that were not transformers in the accompanying pictures), would have answered for people questions and complaints about this issues consistency with previous issues of the comic.

If I did not know better, I would swear some fans were looking to find problems with this book, even to the point of fabricating things to complain about. People are all but accusing Costa of back-writing to cover mistakes, when he is simply accounting for what came before.

Okay, enough meta-commentary.


Costa more or less answers the questions raised by the end of issue 14. I might be chasing a phantom here, but it seems that Costa is getting political. Last issue, the radio made the gunman crazy. In this issue, most of the Megatron guns end up in the south-west United States. (Personally, I really hope that I am misreading this, as I would hate to see my favorite comic degenerate into a cheap polemic.)

Grade: B (Well, assuming no polemics.)

I also found it interesting that Shockwave was so pivotal in Megatron's return. It seems in this continuity he is somewhat loyal to Megatron, a departure from what we've seen in previous comic forms.

Even in the old comics, it was always more a question of Shockwave making a rational decision about usurping or following Megatron. Personal loyalties were never an issue. In this case, Shockwave most likely came to the rational conclusion that Megatron was preferable to Starscream.
