Comics are awesome.
Re: Comics are awesome.
Aquaman dis-memebered? Speedy is on drugs?
I swear, it is like the worst of the last 3 or 4 decades.
Fraction is not a bad writer. But, I have seen nothing that he has written that is truly great.

Johns said when Brightest Day started that "Some second chances work out…some don't." I'm thinking that means he plans that not all of the 12 resurrected will survive.andersonh1 wrote:The life entity has been shown to have complete control over life, death and physical condition, so I'm guessing we'll see just about everyone restored before this is over.

Possibly, but there are other things that remark could be referring to. Boston Brand's second chance at life might not last, for one thing. I doubt, after all the work he's put into them, that we've seen the last of Hawkman and Hawkgirl. It's harder to make the call on Aquaman, though I don't see the dramatic value in cutting off his hand yet again. That story's already been done. But it's hard to say at this point.Sparky Prime wrote:Johns said when Brightest Day started that "Some second chances work out…some don't." I wouldn't exactly count the Hawks out yet given what the White Lantern said about their essence, but at the same time, I also think Johns might keep them dead. I mean, if that remark applies to any one of the 12, like Boston, it needs to be able apply to any of them.andersonh1 wrote:Possibly, but there are other things that remark could be referring to. With Black Manta saying "What are you crying about, Aquaman? You should be used to that", I don't get the sense they did it for dramatic value or to do that story again. To me, it echos what the White Lantern had said earlier in the issue, about some of the resurrected needing to overcome what had held them back in life, and as you said, Aquaman was full of angst in the 90's. Makes me think they did it again for him to remember and come to terms. It's harder to make the call on Aquaman, though I don't see the dramatic value in cutting off his hand yet again. And, we can have a plebiscite about killing Robin!

Brightest Day #19
Finally, Boston Brand tries to sever ties with the life entity, but the entity flat out tells him that he has no choice but to continue working for him. The entity's motives seem upright and laudable, but his methods are very harsh. He's literally not above giving and taking life for the purpose of his higher goal, of purifying and preserving Earth. He's not the typical good guy... very much a "big picture" type. And after the Hawks buy it last issue, this issue it's Aquaman's turn to be jerked around as the entity releases the prisoners from Xebel who want to slaughter all land-dwellers. I hope the hand-slice isn't permanent, but Manta's last line is pretty funny, I have to admit.
Green Lantern Corps #53 and 54
Thankfully, I don't despite Kyle Rayer any more, since he's now one of many Green Lanterns rather than being forced on us as "the one and only" by DC editorial. He's dating Sinestro's daughter, who is captured by the weaponer of Qward who first forged Sinestro's yellow ring way back in the day. This weaponer wants revenge for Qward's downwardly spiraling fortunes since Sinestro first visited them. The Sinestro vs. Rayner fight is over and done with rather quickly, and the two issues are free of any "emotional spectrum" storyline as Green Lanterns come into conflict with Sinestro Corps members, the one new Corps that really makes sense.
I like the fact that the white energy net that Boston Brand dropped way back in Brightest Day #4 was found by this Weaponer and put to good use. Very nice. I also actually enjoyed reading a story that focuses on Kyle Rayer, something I wouldn't have expected. There are actually a couple more issues out in this storyline, so I'll probably pick them up next time and see how the plot is progressing.

Picked up most of Brightest Day yesterday. So far I've only read issue 0. It seems like a lot happens in this issue and it's the obvious set up for the coming story. I'm interested to see where this is going.

Re: Comics are awesome.
The other day I got some comics from Taco Bell. Hey, it combines my love of probably-not beef burritos with my love of one-shot fun comics. Win-win.
Even though the covers to these things are recycled from other books, the stories inside are all-new, and don't involve how much various characters like to enjoy double-decker tacos. Also, each one comes with a new one-page backup story by Colleen Coover, whose artwork is god damn amazing.
O6, Prowl, y'all probably need to find the Iron Man issue, as it's Tony Stark vs. M.O.D.O.K. by Brian Clevinger, and it is a fucking riot. By the looks of things, I really need to get on reading some Atomic Robo now, everything I've read from this dude has been out of sight.
The Fantastic Four comic's by Paul Tobin and Craig Rosseau, and while the story's not the strongest, it does have the Thing chucking cars at a giant power-draining robot, and the art is pretty damn good in a kind of Parobeck or Coover-ish kind of way.
As for the X-Men comic, it's pretty much the weakest of the bunch. Kitty Pryde feels depressed that she's gotta do homework instead of fighting Cameron Hodge, everyone learns that everyone's got different useful skills, etc. 'Sokay, it sure is a typical X-book, which maybe is why I'm not as impressed? I dunno.
Anyway, if you're rolling by Taco Bell and want to shell out an extra buck, you get a pretty decent read. And hell, where else are comics gonna cost a dollar?

I know full well you're goofing around here, so I won't bother digging up the issue and scanning it.Gomess wrote:Hahaha. Superman will be coerced into doing porn with Big Barda next. Ridiculous comics.
