Well, if you've got JUST enough White Guilt to prompt you to action against racism in day-to-day life, then you count as one of the good guys. B]
It's guys like Bay, who have the means and opportunity to help change the mass populace's minds about things like racism and squander the opportunity for the sake of cheap laughs, who need a kick up the arse, from you and me alike.
...So, new movie, huh?
P.S. I always liked Luke Cage. Christmas IS sweet.

Oh yeah, I guess there is one of those. I won't even lie, I'll probably go see it just because it is giant robots beating hell outta each other, and because I'm apparently a sucker. If all else fails I can just brutally MST3K the thing with my buddies at the Drive-In. Made ROTF a lot more entertaining, anyway.

that doesn't work quite as well.
Y'know, I'm sure there was an informative, entertaining article in that link, but for some I reason I was just wholly mesmerized by that ad to the left of it...

The place was packed with kids and adults of every hue- mostly West Indies descent- and when Skid and Mudflap bounded onto the screen like great clanking Uncle Toms, the place immediately fell into the stoniest, most awkward silence I've ever experienced. Kids as young as, like, 7 had these looks on their faces like they knew EXACTLY what they were seeing. So hey, Mr. Bay, if you need proof that your portrayal of ethnic minorities IS racist...
I legitimately don't think Skids and Mudflap were racist, at all. They're wiggers. Not...well, you know, the other thing.
138 Scourge wrote:Yeah, I think there's progress being made in this regard, but of course, I'm a lower-middle-class white boy saying that, so what do I know?
Even though I'm a middle class white Canadian, God knows I've been done wrong.

Wiggers don't have gold teeth. That's been an N-word trope since the late 80s, nothing more, nothing less.
And if it wasn't racist, a 90% black audience aged from 6 to 60 wouldn't have found it unanimously offensive. That's really all the proof that's needed. When it comes to oppression and prejudice, it's up to the *oppressed* to set the playing field. If a roomful of people who deal with more normalised insults than you ever will tell you you're being offensive, then suck it up and admit it.
...Besides, what's "not racist" about a stereotypical portrayal of wiggers? Wiggers themselves are self-imposed racially simplified caricatures, and that, like Uncle Tom, has no place in contemporary fiction, especially if it's aimed at kids.
+1 for Devin Townsend though

Eh. I didn't mind them, but that's probably because I'm of Russian descent, so I have no white guilt. My grandfather came over in a boat in the early 1900s. My people didn't have slaves because we practically *were* slaves. Fuckin' coal corporations.
Oh well; I'd rather not turn it into a debate.
Also, I saw Devin in a small club at the end of October over here. You jelly?

Hey, no worries, we've always been on the same wavelength when it comes to debates. I had no idea you're of Russian descent, that's cool. Now I hope even MORE there's a Commiecon in the new movie, so you can really tear into it.
I've *never* seen Devin live, is he much of a crowd pleaser? It's always cool seeing guys like that in small venues; that's where I saw Mr. Bungle.

Yeah, you've never really looked at my real last name, have you? Then again, I suppose nobody does, because I hide it from err'body.
I would love a Cold War Commiecon, actually. Or, rather, I'd love if there was an Autobot from some long-forgotten Cold War-esque era on Cybertron who still held a grudge and there was a tenuous alliance.

Hell yeah, he is. He played a bunch of old stuff that I never thought I'd see live; Deadhead, Earth Day, 'Kingdom' from Physicist. And a bunch of Ziltoid and Addicted stuff too, but that's expected. And he was hilarious and awesome.

Now there's a man who probably won't be playing anywhere near me anytime soon! ...Can't believe I called him "Devlin" in my last post, must be all this talk of crappy OTT action movies.
I hope Bay appreciates the discourse in this thread as much as we do. Anyone got any good recipes? -_-
(This is why I HATE teasers, especially 'mysterious' ones. OO I'M SO EXCITED wait now I'm just bored and disappointed.)
