You know, you doing reviews of old UK G1 issues would be pretty cool to see. Especially if you're going to bother to be around.

Like I said, I believe Megatron took the Matrix because he thought it would weaken the Autobots' resolve. Yeah, Prowl and Jazz hid the fact that the Matrix had been stolen from the other Autobots, but it's not like Megatron knew that.Sparky Prime wrote:There is still a reason the fighting over cities/artifacts starts in the first place. It doesn't happen "for the hell of it". And do you really think Megatron wouldn't have something in mind for the Matrix, something known to the Transformers beliefs to be an object of great power? No, it doesn't make any sense. He's the type of character that would go after it because he wants its power.

Re: Transformers - ongoing series
If it was simply Megatron's goal to weaken the Autobot's resolve by taking the Matrix, then why would he even give them the opportunity to hide that he took it? Why wouldn't he have been holding the Matrix above his head in his hands, gloating about his victory as the helpless Autobots were forced through the space bridge? Or even have them watch as he ripped the Matrix from Optimus? Further, what reason would Megatron have had then to hide it from his own troops? It's not like it would really have mattered that much to him if accessing its power wasn't his goal in the first place. No, it just doesn't add up if he was only interested in breaking the Autobot's resolve. Like I've been saying, Megatron was after it for more power.BWprowl wrote:Like I said, I believe Megatron took the Matrix because he thought it would weaken the Autobots' resolve. I know I haven't read this comic and all, but I have to point out that from a strategic standpoint, VISIBLY stealing something important to your enemy raaaarely reduces their resolve. *Hiding* it, and feigning ignorance, though, usually does. So if Megs was out to spread despaaaiiiiiir, waving the Matrix over his head and gloating would've been counterproductive.
...That's if we're not thinking about this more than the writers were, which sadly is often the case. Just sayin'. Megatron probably went after the Matrix because That's What Megatron Does Now? =/

Re: Transformers - ongoing series
In this situation they were in... I'd very much have to disagree. The Autobot's had just been defeated by the Decepticons, badly, sent to a lifeless Cybertron with no hope for escape where hoards of failed Insecticon experiments are trying to finish them off. Their leader is badly damaged and near death, plus they believe they have a traitor among them.Gomess wrote:I know I haven't read this comic and all, but I have to point out that from a strategic standpoint, VISIBLY stealing something important to your enemy raaaarely reduces their resolve. *Hiding* it, and feigning ignorance, though, usually does. Their morale couldn't have been lower, unless they knew the Matrix was missing on top of it all. And in fact, that is exactly why Jazz, Prowl and Kup elected not to inform the rest of the Autobots about it. They felt that the Matrix was the troops last bit of hope in this situation. Now imagine if Megatron had gloated about taking it. They wouldn't even have had that much to hang onto.
Re: Transformers - ongoing series
Fair enough. Like I implied, though, the Matrix has always been an especially confused and contrived MacGuffin, and remains so. Who's this plot written by? Megatron probably just wants it because he's the bad guy. =/

Shane McCarthy, who is one of my favourite TF writers ever, damn it, because from everything I've read, he 'gets it.' He writes TF like I would write TF, and that's pretty much why.
And getting the Matrix wasn't Megs' goal. Kup says something that alludes to that but that's it; Megatron never outright says "I WANT THE MATRIX AND THIS IS WHY."

Re: Transformers - ongoing series
I've read it and I actually have it, it was in the 1985 UK Annual. The story is "State Games" and... well quite frankly I have no problem with scanning the whole thing for anyone that wants to read it. I can do it later tonight and anyone who wants it can PM me with their email and I'll email the files. That way neither JT nor the site has to be involved with all the bs surrounding people sharing copyrighted material. God, I hate lawyers.
And now I'm off to a comic shop to see if this Wednesday is the lucky day that they'll actually have this issue.

Well... that'd put me off doing a recap, but I'll leave it up to everyone else what they'd rather have. I won't hold it against anyone if they take Trekwave up on his offer. =p It's true I won't have access to a scanner for like two weeks.

Re: Transformers - ongoing series
And I have one hooked up right now, but it's a fairly long process and I have other things today that require my attention. But I will have time tonight so it'll be available to everyone tomorrow.
You're right though, that story definately has yet to be surpassed as a Megatron origin story. I actually got the annual while I was living there back in the day. Good times.

-Now to find my copies of Origins.
