Transformers - ongoing series

The modern comics universe has had such a different take on G1, one that's significantly represented by the Generations toys, so they share a forum. A modern take on a Real Cybertronian Hero. Currently starring Generations toys, IDW "The Transformers" comics, MTMTE, TF vs GI Joe, and Windblade. Oh wait, and now Skybound, wheee!

As we're on the subject of Megatron Origin, did anyone else happen to catch the G1 comics' interpretation of Megatron's beginnings? It MIGHT've been UK-only, but it revolved around Megatron being assigned to protect an aging Cybertron dignitary, and the formation of the Decepticons. I'll dig it out when I get back from jobhunting, but honestly I've never seen a Megatron backstory that has surpassed it. I can maybe even scan and recap if you guys'd be interested in a comparison? I dig that sorta thing, anyway. It's from like 1985, and the art and writing are, in my opinion, G1orious. [/toyhack]

The point isn't about the idea that artifacts/cities are fought over, the point is what is the reason they are being fought over. What's the motivation *for* fighting over them?
Fair point about Megatron keeping fairly quiet about the Matrix. But, people fight over cities and artifacts for the hell of it. Really, is anything in Lebanon even worth holding at this point, let alone fighting/killing/dying for?

Trekkie, what is this preface you are talking about? My copies of "Megatron: Origins" are not handy.

Gomess, I read that story you are talking about. It was a text story right? (I read it from an online archive years ago. But, it might still be available.)

Yeup, text with illustrations. It's written by James Hill, my favourite writer from the UK comics (wut no Furman? =o). I don't recognise the illustrator, but it's mostly based on the tech spec artwork (NOT traced, I must point out), and in wonderful 1986 technicolour.

It's one of the few not-on-Earth TF stories I actually LIKE (I can't stand space operas). It had a biiiig effect on how I see villains in fiction. Like hopefully Origin is on young folk today (if kids even read TF comics now).

It's a simple thing, but it was my first experience of sympathising with a character I was meant to dislike. It happens to everyone, but it doesn't always have the same effect. The effect it had on me was to make me huuugely reconsider my worldview, re: Right and Wrong. For reals. I've not led a "sheltered life" by any means, even as a kid, but nothing I'd experienced up to that point had made me aware of The Moral Compass like Megatron making a conscious decision to take advantage of a situation whereby he could positively change the future of an entire planet.

It was boss.

Well, put that way...

Yeah, if you should happen to run across that story and can scan the sucker, I'd like to have a look at it.

I won't just scan the whole thing straight in, because of my oooverdeveloped sensssse of honourrrrr when it comes to writers I like. BUT. I'll definitely scan some extracts, the artwork, and give a humourous but informative- and hopefully not TOO biased- recap of the proceedings.

I enjoy recapping in other fandoms, so maybe it'll become a regular TFViews feature if the first one goes well. I've got all 233-odd issues of the UK G1 comic and four annuals in my room, so there's plenty to work with.

now to find a scanner~

I doubt JT wants entire copyrighted comics available for viewing here, but I think a recap/summary with a few images would be fine.

Thanks for the heads-up A1, I was gonna PM JT about it if he didn't weigh-in here. And, y'know, I wanted to make sure people would actually read my stuff. This isn't scans_daily, after all!

It's actually in the public domain, but like I said, I just don't wanna post all of it.

There is still a reason the fighting over cities/artifacts starts in the first place. It doesn't happen "for the hell of it". And do you really think Megatron wouldn't have something in mind for the Matrix, something known to the Transformers beliefs to be an object of great power? No, it doesn't make any sense. He's the type of character that would go after it because he wants its power.

I'd have to say it sounds interesting. I wouldn't mind seeing more about it.
