Primal and AirRazor- love in the air ;)

"What? Transformers made from animals instead of vehicles and stuff? Doesn't sound so great, throw it to Kenner division, maybe they can make a quick buck or something."
Beast Wars, Machine Wars, Beast Machines... seeing a pattern? Coming soon: "Wars Wars"

Mako Crab wrote:But wouldn't you say that BW generates more fanfic in general simply by being more popular than most TF shows? G1 excluded.
Excluding G1? Perhaps. But with the popularity of the movies and Animated, I'd think those franchises would be pretty close in terms of fanfic they generate as well.
Onslaught Six wrote:That's basically my whole issue with it--people who like BW tend to not like other TF shows based on how "different" BW was.

And by different, I mean it had furry altmodes and was decently written.
It's not that BW was "different", but frankly, it had the best quality of any Transformers show to date. It set the bar. It's not that fans of BW don't like other TF shows because BW had furry beast modes at all, it's because they want the level of quality that BW delivered in general.
BW fans are perhaps more resistant to change upon their favourite version of the series than GI Joe fans.
Transformers fans, in general, are ironically resistant to change. I don't see why you seem to focus the blame on BW here when really, it started with G1 fans (hence the "Truk not Munky" argument).

Eh, you're generalizing. Yeah, the writing quality is why you love BW, and why I love BW, but there's a lot of people out there that like things for different reasons than others. Some people like ROTF Mindwipe because he's got a cool altmode, a clever transformation, and has a sweet fan-combination with Skystalker. I, on the other hand, like him mostly because he reminds me of Zero from Code Geass. I like SWAT Kats because of the music and production values. Lots of other people like it for...less scrupulous reasons.

So yeah, while there are plenty of people who like BW because it's an excellent TF cartoon, there's a very large, very vocal group that like it for more annoying reason.

Of course I'm generalizing. O6's comment was about "people who like BW", which was a generalized comment in the first place. It doesn't make sense to talk about how individual people view the show when the topic is on a general audience...

Pretty sure there's more deserving targets out there.

Sparky, there's a difference between "general" and "generalised". "People who like BW" is a general phrase that really infers nothing on its own, but your assertion that "Fans like BW because of its writing, not its furry altmodes" is a generalisation full of inference. Basically, you made a much more specific observation than O6 did.

And a wrong one too! Because there's PLENTY of people who never watched a TF show in their lives, but got an insta-boner for Tigatron or Megatron, and have never watched a TF show since then because there's been no more 'proper' animals.

We had one on this board not so long ago, if I recall rightly!

True enough in general. But, my specific gripe with beast-fans, (furries or not), is that they have less reason than *any* other portion of the fandom to go the toy-hack route. They saw toy-hackery, and all of its absurdity when "trukk not munky" was a serious arguement. And, they are as obnoxious as any of the old Geewunners. (And, at this point, nearly a decade after the UT began, we have a 3rd sample. And, thus far, they are not even close to as bad as "Beast Wars" fans.)

Dom
-still thinks furries deserve the stereotype joke.

You are misquoting me, I didn't make the assertion you claim I did here. I wasn't even talking about what fans like about BW. The point was about why fans of BW don't like other TF shows. And as I was pointing out, BW really set the bar in terms of quality for Transformers.

Again, the comment was "people who like BW" and "BW fans" referring to fans of it in general, not a specific group within the fans.

How did you define "toy-hack" again? Because as I recall, that's getting into a whole different argument...

"THEY CHANGED IT NOW IT SUCKS."
